- To act as Lead Nurse within a multi-professional team – Hepatology/Nutrition Support/Capsule Endoscopy.
- To deliver specialist clinical practice to specific client group.
- To take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical areas.
- To deliver an autonomous nurse-led service within the department of Gastroenterology/Hepatology

Professional/Clinical
- To undertake autonomous nurse-led Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Capsule Endoscopy clinics.
- To undertake nurse-led clinical sessions including history taking and physical examination of patients.
- Take the lead for the co-ordination of the pathway of care for patients attending the Department in line with national standards. Provide advice on Hepatology/Nutrition Support/Capsule Endoscopy related issues as required.
- To undertake IR(ME)R training to order radiological imaging and interpret results.
- To order microscopy and biochemistry tests e.g. urine, blood and other body fluids.
- To administer/dispense medication in line with Trust and Clinic Policies through Patient Group Directives.
- To provide in depth telephone advice and assess the urgency of patients clinical need for allocation of appointments without supervision for complex conditions and symptoms to see the appropriate clinical staff.
- To organise and take lead in staff appraisal performance reviews giving leadership and direction for the development of staff in conjunction with the Matron.
- To under Advanced Health Assessment and Non-Medical Prescribing.
- To assist in developing, monitoring and updating relevant information and health promotion material on all aspects of Gastroenterology/Hepatology.
- To act as a resource within the Trust to ensure appropriate information/advice is given to patients.
- Influence and monitor the standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols and guidelines.
- To be professionally accountable for all actions during working shift.
- Working within the NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one’s own abilities and limitations.
- Promote good working relationships within the nursing team providing appropriate advice and support.
- Facilitate the development of standards of care and assist with the implementation of appropriate monitoring techniques.
- To act as an ambassador for the clinical environment and the Trust, where appropriate, by promoting a professional image of nursing.
- Ensure current registration of all qualified staff at recruitment and during employment in line with Trust Policy.
- Ensures current registration with NMC.
