Gas Apprentice

Yorkshire Housing Limited
Full Time 10569 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Hey there - are you excited about learning new skills and kick-starting your career as a Gas Engineer?

Do you want to join an organisation with a social purpose, making a real difference in people’s lives?

Well, you’re in the right place. We're looking for our next crew of Gas Apprentices!

How much?

We pay £10,569 for first 12 months with annual incremental increases, as well as 25 days annual leave.

We offer a fantastic pension scheme and will match your contribution up to 9%.

You can also claim back for medical appointments, prescriptions and more through our colleague cash plan, and access thousands of retail discounts with Perkbox.

When?

You’ll work a 37.5 hour week, and your contracted hours will be between Monday - Friday 7.5 hours per day (between 7am-5pm) start and finish times to be confirmed.

As part of this role, you’re expected to attend college one day a week or for block release and complete the required assignments, along with any associated tests.

Where?

You’ll be based predominantly in your designated region, Bradford but covering the whole West Yorkshire too.

With who?

You’ll work with an experienced, dynamic and friendly team across the region, and receive training from our experts to ensure you meet our quality guidelines.

And what about us?

You might think of Yorkshire Housing as ‘just’ a housing provider, but we’re so much more than that. We own and manage nearly 20,000 homes (and counting) across Yorkshire and make it possible for current and future customers to have a place they’re proud to call home.

Our service doesn’t stop once the keys are in the door, and as part of our Gas team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our tenants feel safe, valued and proud to live in a YH home from day one. Are you interested yet?

What you’ll be doing

As a Gas Apprentice, you’ll support the team in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing and gas systems.

You’ll work alongside a fab team of experienced gas professionals, carrying out day to day gas repairs in our properties. You’ll help with installations and complete routine checks, learning on the job.

On top of this you’ll be attending college and passing all your related coursework and exams to gain your Gas Level 3 qualification.

The stuff that sets you apart

You’ll be the face of Yorkshire Housing to many of our tenants. So, respectful, warm and professional communication is a key part of this role.

You’ll also work closely with the compliance team in ensuring work is undertaken safely.

We’re looking for people who can tick most of these boxes –

  • GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or above in Maths, English and Science
  • A passion for learning, and growing your career in Gas (work experience in a similar role is a bonus but not essential!)
  • Good practical skills with a methodical approach to work
  • Driven and self-motivated
  • Passionate about doing the right thing, not the easy thing
  • Ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Of course there are more details in the full role profile which is attached, check it out!

The fine print

The closing date for applications will be the 25th April 2023- but we might close it early if we get lots of fab candidates, so don’t hang around. As this role is an apprenticeship, it’s a 24 month fixed contract, but once your fully qualified we’d work with you to secure you an opportunity with us at Yorkshire Housing as we know good talent when we see it!

Please remember to complete your application is as much detail as possible, if your CV isn’t the most detailed, your application is your time to shine!

Our assessments are designed to help you show us your best and won’t be scary intense interviews held in stuffy offices. If you get through to the next stage, you’ll get to meet some of the team and find out more about Yorkshire Housing and the role as part of our assessment centre approach.

At Yorkshire Housing, we’re building a work environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can be themselves. Difference is what makes us stronger, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds.

A basic DBS check will be required if successful – don’t sweat, we’ll sort this out once your successful.
