Job description
Gardener
Everards of Leicestershire
Everards of Leicestershire is a progressive and independent 6th generation family brewer and pub owning company based in Leicester in the heart of the East Midlands.
In 2021 we relocated to a brand-new customer facing state of the art brewery, beer hall and offices at Everards Meadows, comprising 11.5 acres of eventual built development and a further 70+ acres of countryside public access flood plain.
The site is wholly owned and managed by Everards and it shares its home with Jenno’s Coffee House and Specialised Cycles. There is onward planning consent for a hotel and office campus to compliment the exiting development. This is a very exciting opportunity to join the Everards team overseeing, managing and delivering horticultural excellence at Everards Meadows – design, areas of planted space, landscape and the estate to support plant conservation, propagation, research, biodiversity, education and elevated visitor enjoyment.
We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and hard-working Gardener with a flair for horticulture and plants and a keen interest in ecology, biodiversity and a naturalistic approach to help establish and elevate Everards Meadows as a destination garden, a place for community, well-being and a backdrop for Everards HQ and customer experience.
Reporting into the Operations Director, you will be responsible for the upkeep and development of the site, with the support of third-party maintenance contractors and a dedicated volunteer team. You will also manage the conservation, development and practical maintenance of the built development landscaping and policies in line with our Company vision.
Applicants will have sound practical horticultural knowledge to manage the grounds, develop techniques and controls, and propose new areas of planted development.
You will lead a team of Volunteers who will carry out skilled gardening and general garden maintenance work involved in all aspects of gardening. Your range of tasks includes managing the team for design and planting, planting and growing plants from seed, purchasing plants, managing pests and keeping the area generally well maintained. You will also manage garden maintenance and DIY for both the development area primarily and wider flood plain area including basic carpentry and minor painting and decorating.
You will also carry out regular checks and assessments for maintenance, development and improvement of health and safety compliance.
You will hold a formal horticultural qualification, e.g. National Certificate in Horticulture, National Diploma, NVQ Level 3 (amenity horticulture) or RHS General Qualification or similar or equivalent experience. You will demonstrate knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations for the role including relevant Health and Safety and writing risk assessments.
If you have at least two years’ experience in a similar role, this may be your next move!
