About Us
Walworth Garden is an educational and environmental charity, dedicated to knowledge and nurture. We provide excellent learning and horticultural therapy in a garden that is open to all, seven days a week.
We also provide services that individuals or other organisations pay for in order to generate surplus income to support our charitable work.
Purpose of the Role
To be responsible for and lead on the planning, recruitment, delivery, (on and off site), and administration of Walworth Garden’s accredited and non-accredited education programmes, managing a team of Garden Education Officers and independent workshop practitioners. To work with the CEO to conduct an appropriate and timely curriculum review in preparation for a potential move away from ‘Work-based Horticulture’. To regularly research and develop new workshops that align with the ethos and approach of Walworth Garden and to review the ones currently running. To work with the CEO and other managers in creating curricula that is appropriate for a broader audience in preparation for the Garden’s successful completion of its improvement plan. Individual responsibilities
To successfully lead on all aspects of City & Guilds Work-based Horticulture at Level 2 - delivery, administration, GLH, recruitment, funding, sales, accreditation, curriculum innovation and futureproofing
To administer all aspects of the course in accordance with City & Guilds and funder rules and regulations and to collate and track data in order to satisfy both City & Guilds, student progress and funder demand
To liaise with the CEO and other colleagues in preparation for inspections, monitoring visits and lesson observations
To liaise with, support, and manage Garden Education Officers and other Horticulture Teacher/Assessors in order to ensure coherent teaching, record keeping, and full coverage of the curriculum with lesson plans
Lead on workshops (short courses) - calendar, booking, sales, curriculum innovation and futureproofing
To be appropriately qualified in order to teach and assess student work, gain IQA status and monitor and assess the work of those they manage
To facilitate student success to completion
To liaise with colleagues in order to promote courses and recruit optimum numbers of students; ensure relevant student details are on record, and to adhere to all GDPR and other data protection rules
To liaise with the Head Gardener and support the Garden Education Officers so that work carried out by students in the Garden is in line with the overall vision and contributes to the success of both the Garden and the Plant Centre
Manage external speakers programme and collaborations with external bodies to promote and develop Walworth Garden’s ethos and access new audiences
To be a reflective practitioner and adhere to the Professional Teacher Standards as laid out by The Education & Training Foundation
To take part in and lead in preparing students for employment
To take part in and lead on the Garden’s yearly Performance Management cycle
To be prepared to take part in further developmental training to secure increased success both for the individual and the Garden.
In conjunction with other senior staff, the post holder will be responsible for recruitment, selection, induction and overseeing the work of any volunteers that help with activities related to the principal accountabilities
All other reasonable requests made by the CEO/Head Gardener
To deputise, with other managers, for the CEO in their absence

Salary: £31,000.00-£41,000.00 per year
