With a focus on original artworks, the gallery is host to three showrooms, which hold a diverse selection of ceramics, sculpture and art in various mediums by established national and international artists.

Gallery Consultant - Overview of Role
We are currently seeking a Gallery Consultant with an expertise in sales and communications, to develop strong client relationships and to become an integral part of our team. Despite our location, Kellie Miller Arts is active within an international art market. With an online gallery shop and yearly arts events programme, you will be joining a successful independent company that has expansion and growth high on its agenda.
A Gallery Consultant is there to provide a high quality, personable service to gallery visitors with a view to securing sales, providing information, increasing our client list and raising the profile of the Gallery.
Tasks, Responsibilities and Objectives
Sales
- Being actively informed in order to be able to discuss the work on show and in the stock rooms
- Maintaining and developing Gallery contacts and mailing lists in order to manage client expectations and generate sales
- Familiarity with retail procedures, credit systems and limitations therein
Operations
- Operating Gallery routines during opening hours: opening and closing the Gallery, greeting visitors, keeping a tally of visitor figures and catalogue sales, invigilating
- Dealing with suppliers and artists as necessary
- Maintaining cleanliness and order of the Gallery
- Contributing enthusiastically to the development of the service
Display, Marketing and Merchandising
- Providing assistance to the installation and de-installation of exhibitions including completing condition reports, being involved with the maintenance and re-decoration of gallery walls and upkeep of the store cupboard
- Participation in Private View evenings and other key events
- Re-merchandising the Gallery at appropriate intervals to ensure that displays remain fresh, different and attractive
- Photographing the gallery or artworks for use on social media when required
Administration
- Answer public enquiries and provide help for artists, visitors, collectors and customers in person, via the telephone and where appropriate by written communication.
- Completing sales documentation
- Adding to and maintaining the mailing list
- Documenting artworks (booking works in and out of the gallery, labelling, etc)
Person Specification
Essential
- A Degree e.g. History of Art, although non-art related subjects such as business, psychology, marketing, and social sciences are also welcome
- Previous experience of working either within a gallery or luxury sales environment
- You will be expected to sell, so must be able to establish business relationships and a rapport with potential collectors, so excellent customer service is integral
- Efficient, well organised and resourceful
- An excellent communicator, able to converse freely with people and explain ideas, concepts and plans
- Knowledge of databases and be IT proficient in operating software i.e. Microsoft Office and/orGoogle Suite and Mac computers.
- Has some knowledge regarding contemporary art and art practises
- Flexible - this job includes scheduled weekend work and occasional evening work during exhibition periods.
- Willingness to undertake a wide range of duties, including manual work.
Desirable
- Knowledge of packing, unpacking, handling and hanging artworks
- Knowledge of social media marketing and abilities to be able to promote arts activities, services and exhibitions
- Some experience of invigilation and administrative work
- Creative writing skills

Salary: £20,000.00-£25,000.00 per year
