The University will pay a supplement per annum pro rata to spine point 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, with effect from 1st February 2023, to align with the Real Living Wage (RLW) which equates to £21,400. This RLW supplement will be reviewed annually to take account of future increases and RLW rates.
There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK.
This role will require a Basic Disclosure check. An offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory outcome of this process.

The Post
Primarily based within Campus Central, the role holder is required to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout the buildings. Flexibility in location is required to ensure all building cover is maintained throughout the year, particularly during periods of events including graduation.
Reporting directly to an on-site Cleaning Supervisor, the role holder will be responsible in ensuring designated areas are cleaned in accordance with specifications and ensure areas are prepared for customer use.
As a front facing role, the role holder will be expected to provide excellence in customer care to all users of the properties.
1 Full time (36 hour) post is available, working 5 over 7 on a rotating shift pattern which covers 6am to 10pm.
Additional Information/Special Conditions
Role holders are required to wear a uniform (that will be provided) and are expected to have a high standard of personal appearance.
As the post involves manual handling, the role holder should be physically fit to undertake all the duties and responsibilities.
Hours of work may vary depending on your shift pattern and there is a requirement to be flexible to work 5 days over 7 to meet business needs and cover the cleaning schedule.
Cleaners are expected to work on the main student arrival (September) and departure weekends (May/ June and August), Applicant and Open days, Graduation and other key events. Dates and requirements will be advised.
Description of Duties
- To ensure all areas are cleaned and maintained to the highest standard:
- Vacuuming carpeted areas
- Dusting, polishing and wet wiping
- Dusting, sweeping and wet mopping of hard floors
- Burnishing of vinyland linoleum floors with appropriate floor machines
- Cleaning of toilets and kitchens
- To report any maintenance, damage, cleanliness issues to the Cleaning Supervisor
- To report any areas of concern in regards to student welfare immediately to Supervisor/Accommodation services
- To ensure that safe working practices are maintained in the workplace, particularly ensuring compliance with all instructions relating to the use and storage of chemicals, materials and equipment provided for the role
- To ensure only the equipment provided is used for the role
- To complete regular sanitising in relation to Legionella treatment and to report when such works are completed
- To complete a full deep clean of all areas at the end of teaching/occupancy periods, as directed by the Cleaning Supervisor
- To undertake room preparation in relation to bookings, this may include literature distribution, hospitality provision set up, etc
- To ensure all lost property is dealt with in accordance with University policy and procedures
- Ensuring work is undertaken in conjunction with agreed risk assessments and ensuring compliance with health and safety guidance at all times
- To provide excellence in all areas of customer service
- To deal effectively and efficiently with any customer enquiries
- To attend and participate in relevant training and development to ensure that operational and safety standards are maintained at all times
- To ensure manual handling practices are observed at all times
Essential Criteria
- Experience of cleaning duties
- Knowledge of safe working practices and COSHH requirements
- Knowledge of Health and Safety in a cleaning environment
- Physically fit to fulfil the requirements of the job
- Evidence of being self-motivated with a “can do” style and approach
