Full Stack Software Engineer
Salary: From £45,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid - flexibility to work from home or at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Manchester and Harwell)

About the role:
This exciting role is with our OpenAthens service, who are global leaders in making knowledge accessible through Single Sign-On easy. We help more than 2,600 organisations, with 5 million users, in over 65 countries, have access to the knowledge they want, when they want it.

The OpenAthens development team are key to delivering our ambitious growth plans worldwide by delivering our product roadmap to support the strategic goal to double the number of OpenAthens customers over the next 5 years.

As a Full Stack Software Engineer for one of the OpenAthens development scrum teams, you will use your technical skills, knowledge and experience, along with your soft skills, to work with your scrum team colleagues and stakeholders, to continually improve the OpenAthens products. As a full stack developer, you will contribute to both front-end and back-end software changes.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Developing your knowledge of the OpenAthens products, our development process and technical environment
  • Collaborating with your scrum team colleagues (developers, testers, product owner), the application architect and other stakeholders to understand the required product changes, then create the technical design and the plan for their implementation
  • Use your skills, knowledge and experience, along with the team’s development process and technical environment to create the required product changes
  • Actively contribute to technical improvements, product improvements or product discovery

Key Skills and Experience:
  • Experience of designing, developing and supporting enterprise-scale applications
  • Able to create code that is both high quality and easily maintainable
  • Fluency with Java backend development
  • Developing web front-ends with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React
  • A collaborative way of working with customers, end-users, other stakeholders, product managers, other developers, application architect and UX designers
  • Motivation and ability to continuously learn and exploit new and emerging technologies, techniques, and soft skills, combined with a commitment to continuous improvement
