Roles and responsibilities

The Front of House Supervisor (FoHS) is a multi-faceted position of responsibility before and during hours of service. From the moment our guests enter the venue, they are made to feel welcome and our team consistently deliver to our first class standard. The FoHS leads this effort and supports the Bar Manager, Stage Manager, and Head Chef, driving food service quality and presentation control, and leading the Front of House team, consisting of Waiters, Bartenders and SIA Door Supervisors. The role reports to the General Manager, and to the Bar Manager in the absence of the General Manager.

Main responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the Front of House side of the venue
  • Welcome our guests and confirm their booking details as they arrive at the venue check-in desk.
  • Understand our food menu including the use of any allergens and confirming guest dietary requirements prior to further entry into the venue.
  • Set and manage food hygiene and food service standards from all waiters.
  • Ensure all Front of House team members are aware of, and training is given on the Company Policies for:

(i) Health and Safety at Work - First Aid and Accident Reporting, Fire Safety, COSHH, PPE

(ii) UK-GDPR

(iii) Incident Reporting

(iv) Shift amendments

(v) Staff disciplinary process

  • Communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms with the General Manager, Bar Manager, Head Chef, Waiters, Bartenders, Actors, Door Supervisors, and Guests.
  • Ensure that the service corridors and service stations are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Ensure that all FoH shifts are fully staffed working with the Company’s office team as required.
  • Ensure that any performance cancellations are effectively communicated to your department.
  • Ensure that any shift swaps or shift time adjustments have been communicated to our Office Administrative Assistant so that adjustments can be made with payroll in order for your department to be properly paid and on time in relation to their hours of work.
  • Work with General Manager to lead team training, set par levels of equipment and staffing, create up to date opening and closing duties checklists.
  • Work with Senior Management to set and implement the dining carriage mise en place standard, set and maintain uniform and Front of House presentation standards.
  • Co-ordinate between the Stage Manager, Bar Manager, Kitchen, Security and Waiters when serving and clearing food and drinks.

Live Day - Pre-Doors Opening:

  • Create the table plans for the day by referencing our ticket platform partners and also corresponding with our office team for any special requirements and special scenarios.
  • Brief the Head Chef and Chef de Partie on total guest covers numbers and any dietary requirements and then with the rest of the FoH team.
  • Ensure that the Waiter station areas in the Green Room and by the service corridor entrance to the dining carriage area, are clean, tidy, and organised ready for service.
  • Walk around the venue and ensure that the cleaner has visited and cleaned the venue properly, up to standard. Contact our cleaning services company if no cleaner has visited or if the condition of the clean is not up to standard.
  • Ensure the Front of House team clean down the dining carriage tables and booths and then correctly set the tables for the number of guest covers.
  • Ensure all Front of House team are in full uniform prior to opening the house door and that team presentation is acceptable to the company high standard.
  • Complete final set checks including all light bulbs working correctly, menus are filled and clean, there are enough tickets and show newspapers, toilet paper and hand towels have been re-stocked, and any other venue problems of any sort have been identified and solved before the house doors open.
  • Lead Pre-Shift Team Meeting with Front of House team.
  • Confirm that the Stage Manager, Kitchen, Bar, and Front of House team are ready to open
  • Take your position at the check-in desk and open the House doors.

Live Day - Doors Open

  • Take charge of the foyer area: Greet and check-in all guests at the front desk and confirm any dietary requirements and make sure that another FoH team member is available and ready to supervise the cloakroom area
  • Ensure the house rules are clearly communicated to all guests

Live Day - During Show Performance

  • Remain on radio comms throughout the show and standby in the green room and kitchen areas.
  • Actively participate in polishing cutlery and folding napkins
  • React to the SM’s signal for food service and for clearance.
  • Ensure the Waiters are standing by when needed
  • Ensure that all guests have received their food before exiting the dining carriage
  • Manage any food related criticism and other guest complaints promptly and appropriately utilising the support of venue management.
  • Coordinate with other venue management and the SIA Door Supervisor if there are reports from any member of the team about inappropriate guest behaviour.
  • Assist the Bar Manager and Bar team where needed.
  • Ensure that noise from the green room and back of house is kept to a minimum.
  • Communicate with the Door Supervisor and other venue management throughout the show.
  • At the end of the show, lead the Front of House team onboard the dining carriage to clear food, crockery and glassware.
  • Ensure dining carriage is clean: all tables, menus, booths and screens need to be thoroughly cleaned
  • Ensure cutlery and napkins are clean and ready for the next service.
  • Ensure backstage communications whiteboards are cleaned down and service stations are clean and tidy.
  • Remind all Front of House team members to clock-out at the end of their shift.

In addition to the Hourly rate is a share of Service Charge based on a points system, discussed at interview stage.

Primarily evening work and the role will be clear of the venue before midnight.
