The role
Murray Edwards College is looking for a confident, knowledgeable and motivated Front of House Manager to lead the FOH services. You will manage the team throughout their journey at Murray Edwards from hiring and induction, through to their ongoing learning and development and you will also step up and deputise for the Head of Catering when needed. You will be responsible for quality assurance and the health and safety of your team and area, and you should be proactive with resolving any issues. You will manage several areas across the College, from the two conference centres and event spaces which cater for external and internal clients to the in-house café and the ‘Dome’ which is the dining hall where staff lunches and formal dinners are held. The role is wide-ranging, and we expect you to display your exceptional customer service skills to all those who use our facilities, role modelling to your team customer service standards.
The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role, exemplary customer service skills and excellent knowledge of food and drink, particularly wines. You will have strong supervisory and management skills and you will lead by example with a flexible, positive approach and an excellent eye for detail.
Key responsibilities of the role are:
Management of the front of house team
- Supervising, directing, training, mentoring
- Managing staff performance, including probation period reviews, appraisals and setting objectives
- Scheduling of rotas and holidays
- Deputising for the Head of Catering if they are absent
Service
- Quality assurance of all services by updating or creating training and manuals
- Carrying out service requirements
- Assisting the Head of Catering with EPOS and meal booking systems
Financial responsibility
- Training staff to use tills and ensuring correct cash handling, monitoring any issues that may arise
- Ensure the efficient management of resources and have ideas for reducing costs
Health and safety
- Supporting Health and Safety Risk Assessments, and ensuring all training is monitored and kept up to date
- Ensuring standards of food hygiene are met at all times
- Responsible for checking all equipment is safe and reporting any issues

About you
You will:
- Previous experience in a similar role of managing conference/FOH services with excellent knowledge of Food and Beverage particularly wines and excellent Customer Service Skills
- Good knowledge of current Food Safety and Health and Safety legislation.
- Strong analytical skills including financial literacy, strategic planning.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office IT Packages, FORUM, EPOS, and other specific events/food control software.
- Extremely well presented with a friendly, confident, approachable personality and the ability to be discreet with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to manage own and others workloads with minimal supervision.
- Flexible approach to work and tasks (including shift patterns).

Flexibility and hours
- This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week
