Job description
St Andrew’s Healthcare, Northampton, are looking for freelance BSL interpreters to join our pool.
Location: Northampton
St Andrew’s Healthcare is the largest national charitable provider of specialist mental health services in the UK. We provide psychiatric assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for adults with mental health problems, learning disabilities and brain injuries.
Within St. Andrew’s Northampton site, the Deaf service includes medium secure, low secure and community based houses for either male or female patients. We provide individualised treatment and care, utilising a person centred approach.
Our goal is to put the Deaf Service Users’ needs at the heart of everything we do, building an innovative culture of clinical expertise.
We are very keen to build up our pool of specialist Mental Health freelance BSL Interpreters.
Interpreters working in this environment will need to be registered with NRCPD as fully qualified and have at least 2 years’ experience of working at that level. Experience of mental health work is desirable but not essential and can be learned on the job there will be shadowing opportunities.
Our service is 24 hours, so duration of assignments can vary depending on day of the week and ward. We also require interpreters to cover Access to Work bookings. There is plenty of variety and availability of interpreting work on offer.
We have a wide range of domains within this setting such as therapy sessions, assessments, tribunals/hearings (working with our Deaf Social Workers), internal and external meetings, patient outings and generally facilitating communication between non-signing staff and Deaf staff/patients.
Interpreters are required to work on site due to the nature of St Andrew’s work.
As part of the interpreting pool, you will be given the opportunity to access monthly online group supervision with a highly specialist Supervisor. There are also CPD training opportunities that you will be able to access.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a team of skilled and committed professionals and to become an integral member of a multidisciplinary team.

We look forward to hearing from you!
