Job description
We are MI5 and our mission is to keep the UK safe. From terrorist threats to espionage, we protect our national security. That means our operations are hugely varied and complex, which is why having different insights and perspectives is invaluable to our work. Diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission and our culture, because it’s our collective differences that make us stronger and help us to see the bigger picture.
That’s why there’s no one ‘type’ of person we look for and why we’re keen to receive applications from people who belong to groups that are currently underrepresented in our workforce. For this opportunity, we are looking for individuals who are from an Ethnic Minority background*, to register their interest in our Foundation Analyst programme.
About the opportunity
We’re not looking for previous experience as an Analyst, or related qualifications, just a grade C/4 in English Language and the passion to learn. So, whether you’re just starting your career, or looking to change careers, this is an opportunity to put your natural curiosity and problem-solving skills to use, as you help us to unravel the information that helps protect national security.
Your initial training will span over 5 months and will include a mix of classroom training and working within analysis teams. After this time, you’ll go on to complete three more posts over the four years. One of these will involve 12 months of shift work on a 24/7 basis, for which you'll receive an allowance, and we’ll plan your shift pattern well in advance so you can plan your life outside of work. Your other two posts will last for 18 months each on a standard working pattern. The order of posts will depend on the business needs at the time of joining. Throughout the programme, you'll have your own development partner and line manager who will provide continuous support and help you settle into the team. After completion of the programme, you'll have the opportunity to specialise in a certain area of analysis.
- Good teamwork and collaboration skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Naturally curious with a love of problem solving
- Analytical and able to connect the dots between different pieces of information
- A desire to learn and grow
For more information, please visit the Foundation Analyst page on our website.
The application window will open on 26th June 2023. In the meantime, you can register your interest below and we’ll alert you once applications open.
Please note: registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply to the Foundation Analyst Development Programme, will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.
- We are confining registrations of interest to those from an Ethnic Minority background only, due to their current under-representation in our workforce. Once the application window has opened, we will welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, disability and/or any other characteristic(s). All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
