We are currently looking for Forward Deployed Data Engineer to join our Rolling Stock business in London.
The Forward Deployed Data Engineer (FDDE) is a pivotal senior technical expert leadership role with a speciality in either:
- Creating customer value from insights from sensor, maintenance management, and operational data by developing advanced analytical applications (Data Science focus)
- Ensuring that data is delivered from source to application in the right way for the relevant type of engagement (Data Engineering and Platform focus)
In this key role, you will work closely with internal or external customers to develop proof of concept prototype data analytics solutions. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with domain experts to integrate domain knowledge into the solution approach and develop prototype solutions into production-ready applications by collaborating with data engineers,
- Continuously improve existing solutions based on customer requirements,
- Contribute to the day-to-day operational management of the application portfolio,
- Take responsibility for data-science projects from requirements analysis to exploratory analysis and prototyping to productive release.
With a Data Engineering focus, you will build data-pipelines and cloud platform components that connect between platform technology best practices and the customer facing solution. You will translate Technical Product Requirements to Technical Solution Architecture for implementation and Production deployment using in-depth knowledge of both the train data source and technical software/platform development.
The profile of the FDDE combines very strong coding skills, wide-ranging experience in data science in the IoT domain, and an understanding of cloud-based infrastructure. Strong mediation skills are essential to connect between rapidly moving prototype engagements and long-term, sustainable solutions. An ability to set and communicate standards for handover points between business initiatives and technical requirements is highly desirable.
The candidate
Someone with/who:
Essential:
- Degree-level knowledge in an analytics discipline: Mathematical/Statistical/Physical Sciences or Computer Science
- Advanced SQL programming experience
- Practical experience developing in Python
- Experience developing or supporting advanced Data Science or Machine Learning projects
- Experience developing on/with cloud platform services; AWS preferred
- Self-motivated, methodical with good attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple user requirements on complex systems
- Solid stakeholder and user management skills
- Excellent communicator, both written and oral
Preferred:
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools
- Experience with software development processes; including testing, CI/CD, version control (Git flow), and code reviews
- Portfolio of contributions to open-source projects or data science competitions
- Experience of open-source visualization packages and standard BI tools/software (PowerBI, Spotfire, Superset)
