Mountain Healthcare Ltd is pleased to offer the opportunity to join our custody teams as a Forensic Physician (Forensic Medical Examiner, FME), working in the above locations. We predominantly operate a fully embedded model of forensic healthcare delivery (though there is some opportunity for on call work in West Midlands, when rota coverage allows).

The FME is responsible for ensuring the appropriate management and care is provided to detainees i police custody promptly at any time of the day or night (according to shift). It shall be the FME’s responsibility, when on duty, to embed at the designated police custody suite (or to be within the force area, in the case of completing an on call shift in the West Midlands).

For all examinations the FME must accurately document findings. If required, the FME must produce these as a written statement/report for appropriate civil, criminal courts or other agencies. Whenever called upon to do so by the Police, the FME must attend at any Court (remunerated by the CPS) for the purpose of giving evidence.

HOURS OF WORK:

Zero hours and Self-contractor role.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

The clinician will work either embedded in custody or on occasion, on call, to provide medical services across the custody area (Custody dependent) and provide up-to-date, evidence-based advice as needed.

As part of the Forensic Medical Programme, Mountain Healthcare Ltd has developed a framework to develop key areas of knowledge and skills which will be invaluable in all specialties, especially A&E, GP, paediatrics, psychiatry and sexual health.

Please note that applications are considered on an individual basis. It may be deemed that a candidate may be more suitable for a trainee (OOPE) position based on experience.

Essential Skills

  • Completed medical school
  • GMC registered
  • 3+ years medical experience following Foundation year 2
  • Basic Life Support and experience working in an acute environment
  • Medical Indemnity by start date
  • Vetting requires 3 years in the UK

Desired Skills

  • Experience working as a Core trainee/Registrar
  • Experience in A&E or acute medicine
  • Experience in Sexual Health, Paediatrics, GP or psychiatry
  • Experience in Research and/or Audit
