The Forensic Healthcare Assistant will assist the clinical team providing embedded and non-embedded clinical care within custody, under the supervision of senior staff. You will be part of a service that enables detained persons to feel safe.
Custody is both a dynamic and lively environment, with no two days the same. The police can detain individuals for up to 24 hours and within this time, we provide a high level of care to detainees and their needs, which can vary from drug/alcohol dependency to acute medical episodes.
You will provide evidence-based care to detained persons by seeking out, listening to, and acting on detainee feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them.
Being a Forensic Healthcare Assistant involves contributing to and implementing care plans and assisting healthcare professionals and Forensic Practitioners with delivering effective care within the criminal justice system. As well as delivering non-judgemental care throughout our custody contract (including attendance at hospital when required).
You’ll make a real difference enhancing the care we deliver, supported by our senior clinicians and our policies, procedures, and safeguarding and vulnerability model.
Shift pattern
Full and part-time applications will be considered. Shifts will run from 7am to 7pm, and 7pm to 7am. The full-time work pattern is two day shifts, followed by two night shifts, then four days off.

Essential Skills
- Edexcel/IHCD training programme, or equivalent (BTEC level 3 Ambulance Aid).
- Evidence of personal development in previous employment.

- Relevant work experience responding within community setting or within acute or secure healthcare.
- Able to travel for training, supervision, and to support other areas of work as required in role.
