Job description
The Food Service Worker receives general supervision from an on-site Cook.
This is a 10-month, Monday thru Friday, part-time position with hours ranging from 4.75 to 6.25 per day. The position is with the Board of Education
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS: In accordance with safe food handling practices, must be free from communicable diseases.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic food preparation and serving procedures, including sanitation procedures for the preparation handling and storage of food.
Ability to learn the operation of mechanical kitchen equipment as required, including but not limited to; a convection oven, range or steam cooker and serving line equipment. Ability to become proficient at operating a cash register or POS terminal within six (6) months of appointment date, using WIN SNAP as required; operate a telephone and ability to operate calculator.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, and to communicate clearly in English.
Ability to make minor decisions according to established department policies, laws and regulations.
Ability to supervise subordinates as needed.
Ability to keep all records as directed.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees, school staff and students and the general public.
Ability to perform the physical aspects of the position including, but not limited to; the ability to stand at an assigned location and work continuously for extended periods of time, utilizing assigned kitchen or serving equipment; file correspondence, reports, computer printouts, etc, to carry, move and put away food, supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.

ESSENTIAL FEATURES:
Responsible for food preparation work: washes and peels vegetables and fruits, prepares salads, portions desserts, makes sandwiches and makes coffee; serves food cafeteria style and assists children with food selections in school settings.
Assists in preparing simple entrees such as hamburgers, frankfurters, pizza, etc., preparing simple desserts such as gelatin, and reheating any food already prepared; may assume the duties in the absence of the Cook. Directs kitchen helpers where provided.
May assist in receiving and storing food, collecting money for food sold in a cafeteria and preparing orders, records and reports.
Maintains sanitary health standards in receiving, storage, preparation and serving of food, cleaning and care of all utensils and equipment, and cleaning of all work areas.
Washes tables, dishes, pots, pans, cooking and food handling equipment, kitchen area, serving area and assigned dining areas.
May operate a POS terminal when called upon to do so or as a regular assignment.
Maintain good working relations in the kitchen, in the school and in the community.
May attend staff meetings and in-service training as required.
Performs related work as assigned.

All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test, given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
