Kitchen Porter – The Trafalgar St. James
Part of Crimson Hotels, The Trafalgar St. James, Curio Collection by Hilton is a 5 Star hotel with 131 bedrooms including 3 signature suites, and a number of venues consisting of our unique Rooftop bar and Rockwell that pride themselves in the quality of food service that they provide.
The Role
When working as a Kitchen Porter, your main role is to assist the other chefs. Even though it is an entry-level role, as you gain more experience you will be able to take on more complex tasks.
Kitchen Porters are responsible for:
- Receiving deliveries and ensuring that deliveries are organized once in the kitchen.
- Upkeeping cleanliness, as it is directly related to a safe cooking environment
- Ensuring a safe environment by effectively cleaning all cookware and cooking surfaces.
- If a kitchen is extremely busy, the kitchen staff may turn to Porters to perform basic food prep.
- Once a kitchen is closed, assisting in cleaning to make sure that the kitchen is ready for the next day.
The Person
The ideal candidate is an individual who is passionate about food and wishes to learn and progress. The ability to be positive, punctual, reliable, and have a flexible attitude is important, as well as the ability to work well within a team.
As a minimum, we would expect you to have basic communication skills, the ability to work a variety of shifts, and an understanding of basic food hygiene. Although experience within a similar environment is preferable, we recruit for attitude rather than experience and will give you the tools to ensure you will be successful in your role.
