Food Production & Machine Operative, Team Leader with General Warehouse Duties
Multi-faceted Role Primarily based around Production. From being a production operative, to leading a small team, to operating machinery to managing production.

Pay: (Negotiable if experienced, 2 month trial we need to take place) otherwise
1st month induction period (£10 per hour)
Immediate pay rise in 2nd month, to £11 per hour
After 6 month probationary period, 1 hour break per working day will be paid. (equivalent to £2600 p/a pro rata)
Potential Increase in pay to £12 per hour after successful completion of both 12 month period and additional training.
1 month induction period, 6 probationary period, and 12 month pay review
Initial typical working hours: 11am-7pm + overruns - Monday to Friday,
(minimum 7 working hours per day to maximum 12 working hours per day) depending on work load and overruns. Starting & Finishing time maybe adjusted.
Initially unpaid break of 1hr per day, after the 6 months probation period, it will be upgraded to a paid break at your normally hourly rate.
Holiday entitlement 28 days including bank holidays
Once successful candidate has settled in, we would be open to offer earlier start times and finish times as well as optional longer shift hours.
You will need to be flexible with the timings as some of tasks can overrun.
Must be physically fit and able to lift: up to 25kg for a short amount of time repetitively for loading and carrying.
Need to be able commute to our premise located near burngreave & brightside, Sheffield, S4
As an experienced candidate, we will expect you to know and be accustomed to and have the skills and qualities required to what a food production (packing) operative and machine operative day to date roles, duties and responsibilities are.
On average the role will be in a normal paced day to day environment, but during busy period it can turn into afast-paced, high-pressured environment.
Although you will have support and managing production staff, there may be certain times / occasions that you will need to work independently or without support.
You will operate a few different types packaging & weighing machinery. From fully automatic, semi-automatic to manual operation.
Our main machinery is a Fill Form Vertical Seal (VFFS) bagging machine and Multihead Weigher, necessary for daily production. Previous experience on this type of machine is essential as 90% of production will be on this machine. (experience required)
We also have semi-automatic weight and powder filling auger machines. (experience preferred but not required)
Some of the products will have to packed manually either by hand or a combination of semi-automatic machinery. (experience preferred but not required)
We will provide the main training over a period of 1 month with monitored reviews throughout.
Some of Responsibilities, Duties and Accountabilities
- Set up machinery (calibration, cleaning etc) to start/end production cycles
- Load and change packing film reels onto machine
- Change printing thermal ink reel on printer
- Label application on cartons, pallets
- Controlling and adjusting speeds and settings as per general operating procedures
- Check all products for quality & weight issues
- Accurately complete required paperwork
- Ensure work station & area is cleaned on before and after each run
- Inspect parts and test operation and fix (common/simple) issues that occur during the shift.
- Ensuring product changeovers are performed with minimal downtime but in a safe and accurate manner
- Collaborating effectively with the team to ensure that all labels, packaging and film is on the line and ready to use in good time before the job is ready
- Liaising with and reporting any issues to the owners in a clear and concise manner
- Manage 1-2 people on the packing line
- Training & managing new/additional production operatives
- Changing forming tubes
- Load machine for packing
- Setup each production cycle from start to finish, from picking raw materials to warehouse storage of finished goods
- Maintain fast speed and accuracy of boxing up whilst overseeing that products are not overweight/underweight
- General cleaning duties
Other tasks and duties may include:
- General warehouse duties
- You may be required to do other duties/tasks on request
This role, will be quite hands on and physical demanding.
This position would be ideal for a food machinery operator, or food production operative / team leader (with food machinery operational experience) who wants to maintain or grow their experience, skills and potential, as well as working in a non-corporate environment.
We do realise that with any new job, that you will require time to settle in. We will help you, support and train you on all aspects. As you have experience, we do expect you to settle quite quickly and need less training and support than unexperienced staff.
For experienced successful candidate, we would open to take on feasible improvements in our systems and procedures to make the working environment more efficient, time saving and easier.
This is a permanent role with a person who is able to work independently and also as part of a small team. We have a low staff turnover rate so ideally want someone who is reliable and conscientious to join this small, family owned business based in Sheffield.

Our Background
We are Small Growing Family Run, Whole & Snack Food Company based in Sheffield.
Our core products are Nuts, Seeds, Dried Fruit, Flours, Snack and Sweets.
Main production will involve packing these products into bags that range from 20g up to 10kg.
We sell our own branded products via direct to consumer, retail, wholesale and distributor channels.
You will be working along side the owners on a day to day basis, and will be in contact with 5 people most of the time.
Due to the size and type of business we are, we do not have complex systems and rigid management structure. So, most the work will be simple and straight forward and with little bureaucracy.
Due to growth, we are in the process of commissioning another production line that you will be eventually responsible for.

Need to pack a minimum target of 200kg of product into 60g net weight packets, 24 packets per case. Entire contents of the bulk cartons must be used.
Bagging & weighing machine set to run at 40 packets per min
Assume a smooth production cycle, no interruptions, stops, breakdowns or reel changes, no wastage of product or film. 20mins startup & shutdown prep time at both start & finish of production.

Work Location: One location
