Strategy and Planning Manager
The Banking & Proposition Team is at the heart of first direct, bringing together the needs of first direct customers with the banks strategy, proposition, products and the commercial returns that the bank is aiming to achieve.
We’re looking for a Strategy and Planning manager to join our team to help develop and execute fd’s strategy and commercial plan

As a Strategy and Planning Manager, you’ll work closely with fd Banking and Proposition team and wider fd business areas such as digital, operations, technology, etc. to develop and execute fd strategy (aka challenge the challenger). You’ ll collaborate closely with fd finance and wider HSBC UK team in developing proposition business case, trading plan and in tracking and reporting.
This role is a hybrid position requiring to be in office once a week in Leeds or London.
- Support in the strategy planning and execution activities (e.g. FRP, strategy review, etc.)
- Collaborate with stakeholders on strategic deep dive projects to drive insights from trading, financials and customer data
- Help develop business case (including commercials) for fd’s new propositions by collaborating with wider fd and HSBC team
- Ensure proper and timely consideration of market, industry and competitor analysis to support planning and performance management activities
- Support running First Direct performance and engagement governance forums and in improving its quality and impact
- Strong strategic development and problem-solving skills and well developed analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and written communications skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Access etc), and ability to independently source, extract and analyse market data from primary and secondary sources
- Good experience in developing product / proposition business cases and commercial models (excellent commercial / financial modelling skills is important)
- Strategy consulting experience, is an advantage, gained at one of the leading global consultancies, together with industry knowledge of the Banking & Finance sectors
