An opportunity has arisen for a 12 month temporary contract for a Firefighter (Control) based at Fire Service Headquarters. Fire Control is the central Command and Control for emergency fire calls for the whole of Hampshire and Isle of Wight and works in partnership with the Fire Controls in Dorset, Wiltshire and Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Services.
Control is crewed 24 hours per day, 365 days of the year, achieved by four watches on a rotating shift pattern averaging 42 hours per week. You must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
As a Firefighter (Control), you will be answering emergency ‘999’ calls and you will sometimes need to deal with stressful situations so responding positively to pressure is essential. A confident telephone manner is also key as is the ability to think and communicate quickly and clearly. Good typing skills are required, ideally with audio experience. You will need to promptly mobilise appropriate resources to resolve any situation quickly and arrange for ongoing support at operational incidents to minimise loss of life and damage to property.
The ability to work as part of a team in a disciplined environment is essential. You will also need to be able to deal appropriately and effectively with people from all sections of the communities we serve.
Full training and a uniform will be provided.
