The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Fire Chief (GS-0081-13)to work at the 412 Test Wing, 412 Civil Engineer Group, 812 Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire & Emergency Services Flight (812 CES/CEF) at Edwards AFB, in California.

This position has a typical 2023 salary range of $114,044 - $148,255 (includes locality).

Announcement Closes: (30 days)

- The position requires 6 years of progressively more responsible fire service experience, including at least five years in a position managing multiple fire companies or in a senior administrative staff position.

- At least 5 years knowledge of fire protection/prevention theories, principles, methods, techniques, and practices to establish policies and procedures and administer a comprehensive fire protection program

- Shows at least 5 years of documented Command and Control experience that defined appropriate actions taken to mitigate emergencies affecting personnel, property, and the environment

Mission

To protect the future of flight by providing Fire and Emergency Services to the 412th Test Wing. The Fire Chief is responsible for shaping the culture of the flight that reflects the organization’s vision of safe, courteous, innovative, committed, and proficient emergency responders. The incumbent manage fire protection personnel, vehicles, equipment and resources to effectively mitigate incidents that threaten lives, property of the environment. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating a program involving diverse structures and various fire protection responsibilities.

Major Duties

- Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Fire Protection Flight

- Represents the Fire Protection Flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations

- Assumes full charge at crashes, fire, or emergency situations, directing activities and personnel, transmitting instructions to Assistant Chiefs on the scene or other personnel as to the procedures to be followed

- Determines need, budgets for, and recommends acquisition of additional and/or different fire protection, firefighting, and specialized rescue equipment, contract services, and formal training

Qualifications/Requirements

- U.S. Citizenship

- Obtain & maintain Security clearance

- This is a designated Drug Testing Position

- Must be certified by the DOD Fire Fighter Certification system as Fire Officer IV (includes Fire Officer I, II, III), Fire Instructor II (includes Fire Instructor I), Fire Inspector II (includes Fire Inspector I), HAZMAT Incident Commander (includes Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations), and Airport Firefighter (includes

Firefighter I, II).

- Must have a minimum of an Associates Degree in Fire Safety or a related field.

- This position may be designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position may be locally determined to be essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during a emergency are not available

- Knowledge of fire protection/prevention theories, principles, methods, techniques, and practices to establish policies and procedures and administer a comprehensive fire protection program

- Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures

- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisors

- Ability to formulate and effectively implement fire fighting/emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
