Job description
The Role:
You will be working as part of our team of craftspeople, and will be responsible for taking projects from start to finish in the workshop. This will include interpreting project drawings; selecting and planning the use of materials; rough dimensioning and planing stock; accurate sizing and cutting, jointing , moulding, and shaping; sanding; finishing with oil, lacquer, and paint; and fitting projects on site.
You will need experience in using wood hand tools, power tools and stationary woodworking machinery – this experience may have been self-guided or in a formal setting such as an apprenticeship or college. Many projects require an ability to develop and make jigs and batch items. Problem solving and thinking laterally to overcome issues is a vital part of the role, due to the large amount of bespoke work we make.
We work with all sorts of timber materials, but we specialise in solid wood. Experience of traditional jointing (dovetails, mortise and tenon etc) is vital, as this is what our workshop was founded on and these sorts of details are included in most of our work. We also use veneered and plywood panels, and you will need knowledge of score cutting, carcassing, pocket-holing, and domino-ing.
Many of our projects are installed in clients homes, and experience in fitting cabinetry would be very useful. There will be times when you will be fitting projects away from home, though the vast majority of your time will be spent in the workshop.
This is a permanent role (on successful completion of a probationary period)
Salary: up to £30,000 per annum / £15.38 per hour based on experience and knowledge.
Additional Benefits: company pension; paid leave; overtime; discounts on materials; central Liverpool parking permit; company uniform.
