The Crude Trading & Supply organisation supports T&S to meet its business objectives and deliver value. We are active in most crude oil markets, sourcing from a wide range of suppliers and selling to a wide range of customers within and outside Shell.

Trading & Supply (T&S) is deeply committed to complying with financial crime laws and regulations globally. Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, such as Counterparty Due Diligence (CDD), remains a key focus area for T&S.
- The Financial Crime Senior Analyst in Crude T&S is a Crude Trading Business Assurance team member in the Business and Assurance (BIA) organisation and reports to the Crude Trading Business Assurance Lead.
- The BIA function provides assurance for Crude T&S in the following areas: Risk Management, Counterparty Onboarding, Process Assurance, Projects for Automation and Process Improvement across Crude T&S.
- The Crude Trading Business Assurance team provides KYC and counterpart-life-cycle-management expertise to support our Crude business in the first line of defence (LOD1).
- By leading a team of Counterparty Onboarding Focals (COF), the Financial Crime Senior Analyst is responsible for onboarding counterparties and regularly assessing their CDD status through various activities as defined by the T&S KYC Standards.
What’s the role?
You will act as the subject-matter-expert and primary point of contact for Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) Risk concerning counterparties and third-party providers in Crude T&S. Engage and manage other stakeholders, such as Compliance in the second line of defence (LOD2), and other COF teams in the first line of defence (LOD1).
You will also be accountable for the following:
- Own and embed LOD1 documentation, controls and processes that operationalize LOD2 KYC Standards
- Keep Business Integration Assurance Lead updated with all moving parts of the team
- Review & Approve CDD papers (e.g., COF SOPs and KYC Standards)

Oversee the day-to-day key responsibilities of the Crude COF Team
- The successful completion of new onboarding, periodic and event-driven reviews of counterparties within quality standards
- Resolve issues in the course of counterparty onboarding
- Engage and seek advice from LOD2 Compliance as required
- Assist in the recruitment, onboard, and train COF new joiners
- Monitor and regularly report team performance and KPIs (e.g., First Time-Right performance)
- Mentor, train and develop the COF team in matters relating to counterparty due diligence and general financial crime
- Coordinate and track action items as directed by T&S Higher Risk Compliance Committee (HRCC) and The Financial Crime Prevention team
- Engage stakeholders for feedback to continually improve the management and delivery of counterparty CDD
- Mindful of our external counterparty’s experience throughout the CDD process
- Support and drive continuous improvement and innovation to the Counterparty Lifecycle Management (CLCM) programme
- Escalate concerns and provide an independent view and voice for Crude T&S
- Facilitate meetings, lead presentations, and communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively across a range of stakeholders/perspectives
- Clear and frequent reporting of relevant management information to leadership
- Actively engage the team to comply with data privacy requirements and be culturally sensitive to personal identifiable information belonging to our counterparties.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from candidates who have the ability to lead and inspire a team to take a balanced approach between risk and contributing value to the business. With good understanding of general Financial Crime and CDD requirements & processes, and extensive hands-on experience in counterparty due diligence.
Besides that, we would also like to see the following skills reflected on your experience:
- Analytical, sharp, investigative mindset and experience in desktop research required, such as assessing adverse media reports
- Aware of financial crime typologies, systems, and industry developments in the AML KYC space
- Familiar with the three lines of defence and the roles and responsibilities concerning CDD and FCC
- Excellent drafting skills and articulate
- People development skills to support the growth of junior COF team members
- Ability to think outside the box and a mindset of continuous improvement to evaluate existing structures and develop solutions to strengthen efficiency and effectiveness in the CDD process
- International experience and culturally aware as the role engage a diverse set of stakeholders
- Collaborative, learner mindset, responsive
- Provide support to the Business Integration Assurance Lead
- Financial Crime/AML industry certification is an advantage.
