The Team
Reporting into the CFO EMEA & APAC, the EMEA & APAC Accounting and Control team are the gatekeepers of Finance in the region. Responsibility for implementation and adherence to Group and Local Accounting standards is only part of it; the team play a key part in:
- Delivering of Actuals and Month End
- Developing a robust control framework whilst driving excellent data quality for decision making
- Balance Sheet health and risk management
- Cash flow Forecasting and management of Capex Budget
- Audit and Statutory obligations
- Management & identification of accounting risk and opportunity
- Key involvement in the evolution and optimisation of Accounting and Control processes across EMEA, APAC and Group wide.
The Role
Managing the internal and external control environment including the regional Statutory accounts and Audit process, you will be responsible for providing leadership to the EMEA & APAC Accounting and Control team in the markets and GFS across the region. Given the nature of EMEA & APAC as a diverse and growing region there is a significant opportunity to grow this role and expand your network as we embark on journey to controllership excellence across the region and the group.
Given the recently announced merge of the EMEA & APAC regions, the role holder will play an important role in supporting the convergence of the two regions on the journey to become a single operating unit.
Much more than a solely technical role you will be responsible for driving the team composition and controllership strategy, representing a real opportunity to blend technical expertise, partnering and process transformation, whilst leading a significant team. Alongside the Head of FP&A you will also be responsible for managing our key external partner relationships with EY as our accounting provider and KPMG as Auditor.
In terms of interactions the role is a highly visible part of the EMEA Finance and wider Group controllership cohort with significant exposure to: Regional CFO, EMEA & APAC FLT and Group Financial Reporting, Tax, Treasury, Local Finance Directors and on occasion the Group Financial Controller. This role is perfect for those wishing to expand their technical knowledge as pursuit of further specialism or equally a rounding out of experience in a fast-paced region with scope to make an impact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
2. Drive Controllership Excellence and Transformation within EMEA & APAC
- Maintain and develop best in class Financial Controls across all areas of EMEA & APAC Accounting
- Including adherence to both group and local accounting policies, including coordination of new standards and requirements as they are implemented.
- Build on robust control environment ensuring quality and completeness of EMEA & APAC Balance sheet whilst ensuring data quality and minimising risk.
- Form part of wider Group Controllership cohort in pursuit of efficient, standardised approached across the group including sharing of best practice and networking with other regional FC’s
- Identify and manage Accounting Risk across the region, including assessment of any impairment risk across the region
- Optimise processes through increased automation
- Management of EY relationship as accounting and compliance partner for the region in conjunction with Head of FP&A EMEA & APAC
- Lead on relevant EMEA & APAC Internal Audits
2. Manage Regional Audit and Statutory Process
- Delivery of timely and accurate Statutory Accounts across the region
- Management of regional Audit process including attending meetings with Group teams within Experian, KPMG and EY.
- Ensure control and quality is reflected in minimisation of Audit management letter points
- Expedite regional signing dates vs prior year
3. Ownership of Operating Cash Flow Forecasting
- Drive accurate timely and best in class Operating Cash Flow Forecasting as a region
- Alongside team develop and implement tools and processes to speed up and maximise accuracy of current process
- Support CFO, FD’s and MD’s in identifying opportunities for EMEA & APAC to maximise cash result alongside mitigation of risks.
4. Management of Experian Group relationship and associated reporting
- Support Group Tax for regional requests and help drive process and tax efficiency across the region
- Work closely with Treasury to identify regions cash needs and any remittance required
- Attend and lead quarterly regional Balance Sheet reviews with Group Financial Reporting team
- Accountable for production of required regional reporting such as Q&A and GMR
5. Management and Development of the EMEA & APAC A&C Function both in market and GFS
- Provide strategic direction for Accounting and Control leadership team and reports.
- Lead monthly EMEA & APAC Financial Controllers Forum.
- Develop direct and indirect reports to ensure pipeline of talent for A&C and Experian Finance.
- Provide dotted line leadership to GFS Located EMEA Financial Controllers and Accounting teams alongside GFS leadership.
- Attend EMEA & APAC FLT and represent the controllership function.
6. Revenue Assurance
- Partner with Group Revenue Recognition Team to ensure completeness and accuracy of Accrued and Deferred positions including contract costs.
- Attend and lead quarterly Revenue reviews for region
- Alongside market Financial Controllers and GRR team provide insight and recommendation for Commercial Finance teams on revenue recognition approach.
7. Ad Hoc
- Potential for attendance and involvement in Multi Country Region Forums.
- Some travel might be required across region.
- Degree qualified along with an appropriate professional qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA, etc.)
Experience:
- Excellent communicator – both written and verbal
- Demonstrable team leadership both for direct and indirect teams (on and offshore)
- Strong interpersonal skills – ability to form and leverage relationships
- Excellent existing technical knowledge
- Ability to see the big picture and respond accordingly – when to drive for perfection and when to drive for speed
- Experience of statutory processes and Audit
- Experience of influencing senior leaders within Finance
- Highly numerate with ability to draw meaningful conclusions and drive actions from financial analysis
- Demonstrable record of process improvement to drive efficiency and quality
- Oracle, Essbase and HFM knowledge a plus but not compulsory
