This is a vital role in supporting delivery of BT Group financial goals. The Group Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function works closely with Customer Facing Units (CFUs) and Corporate Unit (CUs) to develop stretching forecasts, provide meaningful insight into financial performance and drive action & decision making on a pan BT basis. This role will provide the necessary foundational insight for both short- and long-term decisions by running the key processes and models we use for company valuation, assessing our funding requirements, Price/Volume/Efficiency/Other analysis of our financial plans, calculating our Return on Capital Employed, and more.
Key responsibilities
- Working on BT Group valuation model, ensuring that we have a clear view of both overall value and the sources of that value, and building a strong relationship with the Corporate Finance and Commercial FP&A team
- Owning and running the BT Group Funding model, ensuring we have integrity in our projections of our future funding requirements and credit rating by keeping the model up to date with latest financials and building strong relationships with the Treasury and Pensions teams
- Co-ordinating and building Price/Volume/Efficiency/Other variance analysis on the Group MTP, identifying key drivers of financial performance and potential areas of risk or opportunity
- Assisting with preparing MTP (Medium Term Plan) financial analysis and reporting packs for review and sign off by the Group CFO/CEO and the Board
- Working as part of the Planning Team to carry out ad-hoc Group-wide financial analysis to meet the requirements of the CFO (e.g. to model the impact of inflation on BT)
- Working on improving any data gaps we have when explaining performance at a Group consolidated level
- Identifying ways to leverage the capabilities of SAP to improve our understanding of BT's revenues and costs, and drive progress over time towards a comprehensive driver-based approach.
Key skills required
- Qualified accountant e.g. ACA, CIMA, ACCA
- Advanced financial modelling (excel) skills - ability to build/manipulate detailed models to arrive at appropriate outputs/metrics to support decision making, including building in scenario analysis functionality
- Able to identify issues, get to root causes through the use of financial analysis and insight to diagnose and solve problems
- Strong analytical capabilities, including an understanding of corporate valuation techniques and concepts and the ability to sift through large amounts of data to identify key trends and drivers
- Communication skills - translating complex financial outcomes to senior financial and non-financial stakeholders through both oral and written communication. Ability to tailor message to the relevant audience, distilling key messages without losing the appropriate level of detail
- Demonstrable professionalism and commitment with a proven ability to operate in a complex, fast paced business environment
- Great attention to detail with a zero-tolerance approach to error
- Commercially-astute thinker with the ability to understand business unit dynamics
- Experience of SAP BPC / AFO and SAP Analytics Cloud a distinct advantage
