Accounts Assistant

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our Finance team, based from our Head office in Hertford.
As an Accounts Assistant, you will support the day-to-day accounting transactions within the company. As the finance department is small, there will be exposure to many different tasks, so it is imperative that the successful candidate has excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Confidence and good communication skills are highly valued, as to the ability to identify improvements to processes and procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain all-round experience in finance within fast paced environment.
An experienced Finance Assistant with an excellent eye for detail and the ability to look at the bigger picture, previous experience of Xero software, a great communicator with the ability to work with a dispersed management team.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Bookkeeping
- Purchase ledger posting and reconciliations. Manage purchase order system, matching invoices to orders, allocating orders to appropriate accounts.
- Bank reconciliations
- Credit card posting
- Responding to inbound supplier queries via telephone/email.
- Support the Finance Manager in the maintenance of accounting ledgers.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts.
- Profit and loss review
- Assistance with payment runs.
- Ad hoc assistance with sales ledger
- Monitor accounts inbox
- Assisting the Finance Manager with the preparation of management account files and year end
- Assisting with the implementation of new systems and processes
- Preparation/review of VAT returns and submissions.
- Making sure records and database is always up to date.
- Ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet statutory deadlines for VAT, Payroll, Accounts etc.
- Assisting team members as required.

- Strong communication and administrative skills
- Good computer skills and understanding of cloud accounting practice software. Experience with Xero essential.
- The candidate will either be qualified through previous experience/studying towards AAT etc. Minimum AAT Level 3 qualified.
- Excellent attention to detail and has a strong understanding of accounting processes.
- A strong team player with good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with speed and accuracy with numbers.
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised yet still work to deadlines.
- Being able to work to strict timelines and accuracy in data input is essential.
- Problem solving skills and analytical thinking.
- Excellent multi-tasking ability.
