Job description

KEEN TO KICKSTART YOUR CAREER IN OPERATIONS? THEN THIS IS FOR YOU!

We’re looking for motivated, altruistic, and optimistic people from diverse backgrounds to join us in this impactful work by providing excellent operational support to our clients.

About Impact Ops

Impact Ops is a new organization offering operations support to projects in the effective altruism (EA) community and wider social impact space. Our services include non-profit consultancy, finance, HR, and optimization. Our aim is to be a catalyst for good in the world by enabling and supporting high-impact charities and projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Since we’re a small team, we’ll all be involved in many different aspects of launching a startup. You’ll be our first finance-specific hire. You’ll be in charge of owning our internal finance systems, as well as some of the following tasks for our clients:

  • Reviewing financial data and ensuring the correct recording of transactions
  • Designing automations for routine bookkeeping tasks
  • Cross referencing bank statements and accounting records with internal controls
  • Ensuring compliance with the regulatory and tax requirements in the relevant jurisdictions
  • Processing payments, like invoices, and expense reimbursements
  • Producing and analyzing financial reports on a monthly basis
  • Setting up and administering a company card system
  • Working on budgets for us and our clients

About You:

You’ll likely:

  • Have an operations mindset – you’re good at identifying issues, prioritizing, generating solutions, and efficiently implementing new ideas.
  • Have a high attention to detail: Identifying errors and correcting them.
  • Love to build systems that run exceptionally smoothly, and have promising ideas for how we can improve upon our current processes.
  • Be personable and able to communicate professionally and clearly with various stakeholders and clients, both in writing and verbally.
  • Be passionate about ensuring precision, speed, and accuracy in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Feel comfortable owning projects and managing tasks, and thrive in autonomous work environments.
  • Have previous work experience in finance-related jobs.
  • Have an interest in effective altruism.

Benefits:

We’re a remote-first team and we schedule frequent co-working weeks alongside team retreats.

Our benefits include:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • A £5,000 mental health support allowance.
  • A 10% pension contribution (UK) or equivalent salary boost (elsewhere).
  • Flexible work arrangements, including remote work and self-set schedules. We’ll cover a remote workspace outside your home if you need one.
  • Equipment to help your productivity. We’ll pay for high-quality and ergonomic equipment, like a laptop, monitor, chair, and desk.
  • A £5,000 professional development allowance to support training and other resources to improve your skill set. (We might offer more if there are additional compelling opportunities for you to learn.)
  • Parental leave and support, with up to 14 weeks fully-paid leave and up to 52 weeks leave in total. We also provide financial support to help you balance childcare needs.
  • 25 days of paid vacation time, plus public holidays. We encourage you to use the full allowance.

Salary

Your starting salary range is £45,000 to £55,000, depending on prior experience and location. There may be flexibility in salary for exceptional candidates with significant experience.

Diversity and Inclusion

We’re aware that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic background can affect people’s willingness to apply for roles for which they meet some but not all the suggested attributes. We’d especially like to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to express interest.

There’s no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. If you’re on the fence about applying because you’re unsure whether you’re qualified, we’d encourage you to apply.

Application deadline: 9 July 2023

Expected start date: As soon as possible
