Job description
MI5 safeguards the UK against threats such as terrorism, espionage, cyber and sabotage. We investigate suspect individuals and organisations in the UK to obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence relating to these threats. Alongside our British Intelligence partners MI6 and GCHQ, we provide the UK government with the information they need to protect national security. At MI5 you’ll enjoy varied and rewarding work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
Finance forms an integral part of keeping the UK safe. We now have range of opportunities available at a number of locations for individuals at varying skill levels, keen to make a positive impact. Inclusion is at the heart of our mission, and there’s no one ‘type’ of person we recruit. You’ll join a vital business function where you’ll combine your passion for finance with your talent for numbers and ability to work collaboratively, professionally and innovatively. In doing so, you’ll add value where it matters most and help us protect our national security.
We are recruiting for the following roles:
Finance Manager - (Cheltenham and London)
You’ll deliver sound financial leadership whether you’re focused on analysis or strategy. Leading by example, you’ll motivate those around you while providing accurate reports, data and solutions that influence our operations.
Financial Accountant - (Cheltenham and London)
As an AAT Level 4 qualified accountant, you’ll assure the integrity of financial transactions, analyse and interpret data, and explain figures in non-technical terms to key decision-makers – all while managing a team of one or two people.
Financial Analyst/Officer - (Cheltenham, London and Buckinghamshire)
With a strong desire to learn new skills and develop a financial career, you’ll support teams across our business whether you’re working in analysis, accounting and reporting, or financial operations.
No matter your experience, background, or what stage of your career you’re at, you’ll receive plenty of support right from day one. Depending on the role you apply for, you’ll need previous experience and/or will have (or be working towards) an AAT, CCAB or CIMA qualification. We strongly believe in investing in our people and provide clear, aspirational career pathways. So, you’ll be assigned a buddy as well as a line manager to provide you with plenty of guidance – and gain access to internal communities, support networks and mentors. Plus, you’ll be offered opportunities to gain professional accountancy qualifications throughout your career with us.
Due to the sensitive nature of this work, you’ll be office-based full-time. However, we do offer part-time or compressed hour options with flexibility around your start and finish times. Find out more about joining MI5’s finance team by registering your interest today.
The application window for our Finance roles will open on Monday 20th March 2023 @ 10:00. In the meantime, we encourage:
- All those from an ethnic minority background
- Women (of any background)
- People with disabilities
to register their interest for these forthcoming opportunities*.
As part of the registration of interest, you will be invited to several online events prior to the campaign opening. There will be Insight Events where you can find out more about the role. We are also offering a Skills Event which will provide general tips about completing a job application, preparing for interview etc. These events will run on:
Insight Events – Tuesday 14th March 2023 (12:30pm and 5pm)
Skills Event – Friday 17th March 2023 (1pm)
The events will last for approximately 1 hour.
Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply for these roles, will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.
- We are confining registrations of interest to these groups only, due to their current under-representation in our workforce. Once the application window has opened, we welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, and/or any other characteristic(s). Please check our nationality eligibility criteria requirements. All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
