We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Rent Accounting Team as Finance Officer – Rent Accounting on a permanent basis. You'll be based from our Office in Christchurch, combining both home and office working to ensure a positive work/life balance.


The Role


The Sovereign Rent Accounting Team provides a professional service, gives guidance and management support in optimising cost effectiveness across the business.

Finance Officer will be responsible for dealing with the receipt, allocation and processing of all rent related income to ensure no delays to the application to resident's rent accounts. Together with a high level of customer service both internal and external.

Finance Officer will play a vital role in delivering all rent related services to a large stakeholder base within Sovereign

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all forms of rent income to ensure prompt receipts to resident's accounts
  • Reconcile rent bank accounts with the current housing system transactions investigating discrepancies
  • Monthly General Ledger reconciliations of Rent Refunds and Rent Control Account
  • Downloading rent bank accounts and processing all transactions in a timely and efficient manner
  • Responsible for managing the rent refund automation process as part of team tasks
  • Be involved in all team project work both ongoing and new related to automation and transformation
  • Dealing with queries resolution and processing all types of income and refunds & compensation
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required in line with the level of responsibility of the post and to meet the changing needs of the organisation
  • Responsible for taking calls and emails and supporting the team in delivering good customer service

What we need from you


Ideally you'll need to have experience within a similar role, handling complex queries and previous experience in a busy finance processing team.

  • AAT, part qualified or via experience
  • General understanding of cashbook and bank reconciliation
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships and work well within a team
  • Be highly numerate and computer literate, with strong Excel modelling skills.
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • To be able to work efficiently to ensure queries are dealt with quickly and professionally
  • Experience working with the social housing sector would be advantageous
