Job description
M&S International operates across 60 different territories with 470 stores and over 50 websites covering Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
This is an exciting time to join the International Team as it builds on the momentum achieved thus far in a post-COVID world: with a number of transformation plans either in place or on the horizon, the ambition is to double the profit in the next 5 years.
In FP&A, we have a significant role to play in delivering this, by providing inquisitive challenge and decision support across our planning cycles as well as ensuring our strategy and financials are aligned.
This presents an excellent opportunity for a Finance Manager to join the forefront of our growth phase. You will work alongside our owned markets, franchise relationship managers and International finance team, gaining a breadth of knowledge across the International business.
About the Role
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Support the Director of International Retail to gain a greater understanding of our owned markets performance – ensuring data and analysis produced by the local team is integrated into weekly and month end presentations, and all forecasting cycles
- Preparation of proposals for Property Board, consolidating and challenging schemes submitted by India for new store openings, closures, renewals and extensions
- Take responsibility for the International cash flow and working capital actuals and forecasts, ensuring all elements are understood, scrutinised and variances can be clearly articulated
- Working closely with the FA, bring awareness of capital expenditure to the International leadership team, ensuring that projects are efficiently tracked with any delays being communicated in a timely fashion
- Drive greater visibility of the International total costs base, providing a greater understanding of fixed, variable and discretionary elements
- Assist the Franchise Partner Managers with the International planning process, providing visibility of retail sales and challenging submissions and commentary to ensure they both drive our growth strategy & we are clear on in country trade
- Support the Senior Finance Manager in the production of Operating Review papers that provide insight into topical subjects for the CEO, CFO & Directors
- Plan a lead role in the 5YP planning process, working alongside the other FP&A FM to ensure timelines are aligned with other team deadlines, and that submissions can be reviewed and are presented in a clear and efficient manner
About You
Your skills and experience will include:
- Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
- Excellent analytical skills, uses data in an effective way to provide insightful and value adding analysis
- Can build positive relationships across the multiple Teams (both Finance and non-Finance)
- Challenges and influences business partners, presents information in an articulated way
- Sound commercial Financial competence with a track record of guiding business partners through investment appraisals and providing decision support
- A self-starter, uses initiative and works independently within a wider Team framework
- Adapt and thrives in a changing and challenging environment, and works at pace and with urgency
- Intermediate or advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
