Finance Apprentice - Full Time @ Holmes Chapel
Job description
Based in our head offices in Holmes Chapel, this exciting apprenticeship is perfect if you’re keen to gain essential business and management skills. You’ll help to support our hard-working teams whilst learning all things finance and gaining your level 2 AAT!
What kind of things will I learn through the apprenticeship?
- An understanding of our business – what we do, why we do it and what we plan to achieve
- Financial / accounting procedures and policies
- The role of the finance department and how it helps the organisation succeed
- How to use financial systems
You’ll also develop organisation and communication skills and gain first-hand experience of a wide range of administrative, business and management skills, with a focus on financial aspects.
What will I be doing?
Day to day you’ll help to support our hard-working teams, gaining knowledge across the whole Finance function. There’s a mix of proactive and reactive tasks involved so you’ll need to be flexible and able to remain calm under pressure. Some of the tasks you’ll learn & get to experience through this role include:
- Helping staff and suppliers with queries – for example about budgets, invoices or purchase orders ( primarily by email)
- Helping managers with queries on the financial/accounting system (PSF)
- Inputting data into the financial/accounting system
- Processing refunds
- Assisting with Direct Debit runs
- Carrying out bookkeeping tasks
- Income reconciliations
- Bank reconciliations
- Creating purchase orders
- Helping design financial business processes
- Helping draft financial policies and procedures
How does the Finance Apprentice fit into the bigger picture?
Finance is one of a number of our ‘support’ departments, all of which play an important role in helping us deliver our vision, aims and business plan. In this role you’ll learn what’s involved in helping the business to run effectively and grow – from a financial perspective. For example, you’ll learn how efficient financial processes help the whole business operate soundly, and how financial information informs business decision-making – in turn supporting the delivery of our future business plans.
Is this the role for me?
You’ll need to have good attention to detail, be able to listen and be naturally inquisitive. The nature of many of the work tasks are computer based, so being comfortable to use & learn more skills on programmes and apps such as Microsoft Excel is key. And as a person you’ll be conscientious, reliable and honest, someone who wants to start their journey towards being a financial professional as part of our supportive & welcoming team!
