This key multi-faceted Senior Manager role within Finance, is at the forefront of Asda's £400m capital expenditure programme and heads up investment appraisal for Asda, helping to drive the best strategic investment decisions and strengthen the organisation's returns. Alongside this, it includes a crucial Finance Business Partner role to the Property team, supporting critical decisions on Asda's real estate portfolio and managing the P&L with a £1bn cost base, and ultimately playing a key role in Asda's ambition of #2 in Grocery.
About the role:
- This large & broad Senior manager role heads up the delivery of Asda's ~£400m capital expenditure programme, shaping the strategic plan and optimising returns with the Exec board through great decision-making and strong financial control & governance
- As a senior finance business partner, you will also head up the business partnering of the Property team and drive outstanding P&L performance across the £1bn cost base
- Alongside this, you will lead investment appraisal that focuses on maximising value creation across Asda Property portfolio, supporting critical investment decisions
The ins and outs:
- This role leads the overall £400m capital expenditure programme; shaping the 3yr strategic plan and 1yr budget, setting & owning the governance framework, leading the exec & VP level approval process, challenging in-year decisions and working with key finance stakeholders to drive improved returns & better decision making
- You will lead the investment approval process for Asda, focused on significant developments to unlock and maximise value creation across Asda's real estate, producing high-quality high quality investment papers for board level decision-making, and challenging senior stakeholders to prioritise the right investments
- The successful candidate will lead a team of 3 commercial finance managers and work with stakeholders across the wider Property teams, such as surveyors, market evaluation and construction, alongside other Asda teams such as Legal and the wider Finance team
- You will lead all financial aspects of the Property P&L from strategic planning through to in-year forecasting and analysis of results, working with the business partners to deliver high-performance, identify opportunities, challenge & mitigate emerging risks, maintain strong financial control and create a continuous improvement culture.
- The successful candidate takes an active role in key senior decision forums within the property team leadership group and energy procurement group
What you'll need:
- Strong commercial skill set and critical thinking, with the ability to evaluate investments and support clear, robust and measurable business cases
- Strong leadership & organisational skills to lead & develop the team, covering the capex expenditure programme, investment appraisal and the Property P&L, setting high standards and driving high-performance
- Ability to deliver accurate, timely information to a high quality with excellent attention to detail
- Drive to set direction and take ownership of complex issues to drive the right actions across a wide array of Finance and Non-finance stakeholders
- Confidence and skill to challenge and influence senior exec level partners
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish professional, credible relations with both finance and non-finance colleagues, as well as great communication skills to ensure information is clearly articulated
- Strong Excel, PowerPoint and analytical tool skills to support data-driven decisions
- Applicants should be a graduate (or equivalent) with strong academics and a professional accounting qualification with extensive post qualified experience
