The role of the Senior Manager Commercial Finance is to act as part of the commercial team responsible for governing and enabling sales and business development across global business practices. The main focus of the role will be offering support to the sales function throughout the sales & bid process developing robust commercial models incorporating all aspects from operational considerations, pricing, legal, negotiation strategy to implementation. As well as offering support to the sales team for new bids, the role also supports key personnel on existing clients in respect of business development opportunities and continued review of financial performance post implementation.
What does a “day in the life” of my new team look like?
Financial & Operational Excellence
Responsible for all elements of commercial modelling and sales support including:
- You’ll work as part of commercial team developing robust commercial models
- You’ll ensure commercial governance around a robust bid and opportunity review process
- You’ll identify and communicate commercial risks during the bid process and consider pricing/operational considerations to mitigate those risks.
- You’ll develop and maintain a commercial database of operational and pricing benchmarks
- You’ll challenge operational inputs provided when developing new pricing models
- You’ll provide support to finance team and client operations teams post contract go live
- You’ll liaise with legal and commercial operations team to ensure that any new contracts/contract amendments accurately reflect commercial outputs modelled.
- You’ll offer support to Client Relationship Directors and other senior operational heads
- You’ll deliver inputs for key board reporting for progress of commercial negotiations
- You’ll pro-actively assess areas for process and cost efficiencies within the global business
Client Focus
- For commercial negotiations you’ll offer support to sales personnel
- You’ll undertake post contract lifetime reviews on clients to analyse performance of contract against initial model
Specialist / Technical Expertise
- You’ll keep abreast of market intelligence and industry trends
- You’ll compute complex data and situations to pinpoint the key financial and commercial issues
Who will I be working with?
- Understanding AMS people are a key market differentiator and is genuinely committed to the development of direct reports
- You’ll Support the Director of Commercial Finance by coordinating meetings, undertaking analysis, highlighting issues for escalation and undertaking required activity in their absence
- You’ll ensure the Director of Commercial Finance is constantly aware of any relevant issues to be escalated
- You’ll provide regular feedback (up and down organisation) and create a ‘no surprises’ performance management culture
- You’ll develop close relationships with sales and business heads to ensure commercial function is an integral part of all aspects of sales and operations.
- You’ll work with finance team to ensure commercial models are developed with consideration of all financial and accounting aspects
What do you need from me?
Must-haves
- Analytical – able to translate business problems into meaningful analysis
- Experience with commercial analysis
- Experience of working alongside and offering support for sales function
- Previous experience of financial modelling
- Strong excel skills
- Fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
Nice-to-haves
- Experience of budgeting and forecasting
- Previous experience in a management accounting role
