Your responsibilities will include:

Business partnering

  • Driving the delivery of effective financial management, control and advisory support for their business unit and all projects/contracts managed by that business unit.
  • Working alongside a project manager within a business unit, influencing and challenging financial plans, supporting the production of financial budgets, forecasts and analysis and acting as a critical adviser on key financial decisions.
  • Working closely with the project managers to help drive project performance and ensure that high quality financial decisions are made on the project.
  • Providing objective financial advice and opinions that positively impact the future of the project and associated plan.
  • Providing objective challenge regarding spend plans and take a proactive role in looking for opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and effectively.
  • Investigating opportunities as well as high risk and material financial issues, or problem areas, on the projects.
  • Developing and proposing solutions and options to resolve/progress concerns to a satisfactory outcome.
  • Supporting the project managers in assuming greater degrees of financial accountability by providing local coaching and training to improve financial confidence and competence across the business units.
  • Working closely with the commercial team to provide forward looking insight and challenge, adding demonstrable value through delivering business insight.

Project financial advice and control

  • Reviewing financial performance information and plans, (prepared by the project manager) – including the Financial Plan, Budget and Forecast, to ensure they are robust and accurately reflect key project issues.
  • Ensuring good cost control and cost management behaviour on projects. Promote good financial disciplines, and risk management processes.
  • Ensuring a robust and effective internal control framework and compliance environment exists across the project and addresses risk management processes.
  • Ensuring accounting processes on projects (billing, management of revenue and capitalisation of projects) are disciplined and effective, including any necessary legal entity or consolidation adjustments.
  • Providing financial accounting for legal entities and branches, maintain oversight of full balance sheet and responsibility for project related balances on the balance sheet.
  • Preparing the cash flow forecasts where required.
  • Working with corporate services functions to ensure that transactions adhere to group policies and statutory requirements.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge in financial accounting, corporation tax and VAT.

Business Relationships

  • Working proactively with key project managers and the commercial directors to develop successful partnering relationships.
  • Working collaboratively with members of the finance business partner community (across other business units) to promote and share business partnering ideas, learnings, experiences and best practice.
  • Working collaboratively with wider members of finance, in group finance etc to ensure the legal entity, reporting adjustments, disclosures etc are made and the balance sheet is monitored and control processes followed.
  • Working collaboratively with the super users and support the development of an effective network. the super users will be used to help the finance business partners manage peaks and troughs of workload and to help project managers resolve issues during the month.

Planning, budgeting and forecasting

  • Supporting the project managers with the creation, amendment, maintenance and review of project financial plans, budgets and forecasts on Oracle Cloud and Comm4.
  • Supporting the BUD and commercial director with business planning.
  • Supporting the set-up of projects and tasks structures so that the appropriate management information can be extracted.

About you

You have a degree of equivalent standard of education. You have financial/accounting experience and a background in financial reporting, internal control requirements and strategic planning and execution. It is desired that you have a professional accounting qualification like ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent. It is desired that you have demonstrable experience in Oracle Cloud and in delivering a finance business partner role.
