Job description
The Finance Business Analyst directly supports the Financial Accounting Manager, and assists with statutory and other external reporting requirements, answering technical queries from the business, review and analysis of month-end reconciliations, as well as other ad hoc tasks.
The role plays a pivotal part in supporting BBCS Finance Teams to achieve strong technical accuracy and meet reporting deadlines.
The job requires keeping abreast of changes in accounting standards to assist the wider BBCS finance community on both ongoing and complex accounting issues that may arise.
Main ResponsibilitiesBe the main point of contact for technical queries across the business, determining the accounting impact of commercial decisions across monthly, budget and forecast reporting. This includes the following:
- Revenue recognition queries;
- Investments queries including control assessments and acquisition/equity accounting;
- Foreign exchange; and
- Consolidation and elimination.
Providing training to the wider finance community as accounting guidance evolves.
Prepare parent company accounts and coordinate submission of BBCS Group year-end figures to the BBC Group Finance team, liaising with the business and key stakeholders to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
Liaise with external auditors to discuss and resolve queries as they arise and ensure a smooth audit process.
Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and conduct impact review of new IFRSs.
Work alongside the Financial Accounting Manager to maintain accounting policies across the Group.
Other ad hoc work as may be requested by the manager as well as other members of the Financial Accounting and wider Group Finance teams.
Support the accounting and reporting for a number of centrally managed areas including reporting on intercompany, consolidation including equity accounting, and oversight of elimination entries of interdivisional and intercompany trading.
Support the wider finance teams to manage impairment reviews.
Support weekly and monthly calculations to estimate the Group’s underlying FX exposure, including raising trade requests, reviewing hedging effectiveness, and preparing analysis and reporting of the Group’s foreign exchange position.
Are you the right candidate?- Professional accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
- Awareness of current and prospective technical accounting and reporting requirements under both IFRS and UK GAAP (FRS 101/102) and the ability to apply these requirements in a pragmatic and commercial manner.
- Strong understanding of consolidation principles in an international group, including an awareness of the impact of foreign exchange on trading performance.
- Proficiency working with and preparing primary statements from source data including a good understanding of how to prepare a cash flow statement.
- Proactive and self-motivated with the genuine drive and commitment to improve the effectiveness of reporting processes.
- Confident and flexible team player with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels.
- Good spreadsheet and IT skills (prior experience of using S4 Hana/BPC would be an advantage, but training will be given as required).
