Job Description – Finance Assistant
Who We Are
King’s Community Church is a church based in Hedge End, Southampton. We have an active program of engagement with the local community through our social outreach activities and also operate internationally through a network of contacts. Our annual income of over £1 million comes mainly from giving by church members supplemented by commercial income from mid-week conferencing activities in our buildings.
Job Purpose
Assist with all aspects of book-keeping for King's Community Church and its subsidiaries with a particular focus for expenses/payments processing and Gift Aid reporting.
Job description
Assist to maintain the church's accounts ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded on a timely basis. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Supplier invoice processing, payments and statement reconciliation.
- Expense claims processing.
- Barclaycard expenditure processing.
- Donations recording and Gift Aid claims.
- Customer invoicing, receipts and credit control.
- Bank reconciliations.
- Miscellaneous income & expenditure.
- Maintain accounting records for church’s subsidiary, KCC Enterprises.
- Provide annual Gift Aid Certificates for givers.
- Maintain accurate records for card machine use and ensure compliance with security regulations.
Personal specification
Professional Knowledge Skills and Experience
Computer literate including use of spreadsheets proficiently is essential.
Ability to work with detailed records independently and accurately is essential.
An accounting qualification such as AAT is desirable but not essential.
Experience with financial record keeping is desirable.
Experience of Quickbooks accounts is desirable.
Experience of Gift Aid claims is desirable.
People Management Skills
Ability to communicate well with team members and management, including outsourced accounting bureau.
Ability to communicate well with non-financial staff and volunteers.
Helpful and pro-active style.
Other skills
Diligent with a good eye for detail.
Strong admin / record keeping skills.
Ability to handle confidential information.
This is a part time position (22.5 hrs per week) – Salary £25,000-£26,250 (pro rata) depending on experience and has opportunities for development.
