There's never been a better time to join the M&S Finance Team! Woven into the fabric of M&S, we have impactful finance teams who play a pivotal role in value creation, value protection and delivering data and insights as M&S moves through significant transformation.
Responsibilities will include traditional management accounts but also cost initiatives. Although your own team will be based in Salford Quays, Manchester, you'll be working closely with the Online & Omnichannel Finance team who are based in London, so building relationships remotely will be key in this role.
Key Accountabilities:- Working collaboratively with internal business partners across both the Finance and Commercial teams
- Delivering a combination of regular and ad-hoc information
- Preparing accrual/ prepayment and other necessary journals
- Preparing and submitting of operating cost variance commentary
- Reviewing and commenting on the Purchase Order requests
- Review of vendor management reports and notifying the person who raised the Purchase Orders to take necessary actions on invoice submission and additional goods receipting etc
- Assisting the London team in the preparation of staffing forecasts and attending other ad hoc data requests
- Preparation of working capital forecasts, submission and reporting the variances thereof
- Confirming whether the costs as per BPC is as expected
- Ensuring the integrity of balance sheet reconciliations managed within the role - highlighting any risks/opportunities in a timely manner and owning any associated resolution plans
- Assisting with ongoing and future transition of processes from London to our Business Support Center in Manchester
- Work effectively as part of the wider finance team, influencing better and more informed decision making across all cost areas
- Develop a continuous improvement culture within the team to ensure that the service is being delivered in the most effective way, putting the customer at the heart of everything the team delivers
- A strong accounting background with previous experience of working in a fast paced environment – studying towards an accounting qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or recently qualified
- A commercial awareness
- Exceptional business partnering skills with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels
- Ability to work to agreed timeframes and effectively prioritise workload with a flexible and proactive approach
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, able to resolve complex issues
- Brilliant story-telling - can communicate the impact to management, business partners and other finance teams.
- Quick learner, hardworking and solution orientated.
- Curious and highly motivated, with an interest in retail.
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
