Ogi
Full Time Cardiff, Wales 35000 - 28000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Network Field Engineer – South Wales – Up to £35,000 (DOE) plus excellent benefits and bonus

Joining Ogi is a unique opportunity to work within an innovative Welsh business and one of the fastest-growing companies in Wales.

You may have known us previously as Spectrum Internet and NSUK, but we've rebranded to Ogi - a new name that reflects our commitment to serving Welsh communities. We’ve received a multi-million-pound investment and are currently in the thick of our large-scale full-fibre internet deployment across South Wales!

We’re looking for a Network Field Engineer to join our growing team across South Wales. This is a great role where you will be working hands-on with our Network and part of a team that will support your growth and build your technical skills as well as recognise and reward you for being inquisitive, intuitive, and able to react in an instant to Network incidents.

About you…
As well as experienced engineers, we are also extremely interested in those who want a take a first step into operations but maybe lack experience in everything.

Background wise we look for people who have experience in fault resolution, working under pressure or incident management. Most people tend to come from a build, installation or faulting background within the telco/technology sector however having transferable skills from a different sector can be just as good if you have the drive to learn, the sector knowledge can be taught.

You will already be a techie, the first to be called across your family and friends. We want people who are obsessed with networking, people who enjoy seeing something develop and who never feel content unless they've done something to the best of their abilities... It's not good enough if "it's okay."

It would be great (but not essential) if you have experience working in a telecommunications company / ISP (or a similar type of role), as well as knowledge of -
* Knowledge of IPv4/6 QoS, routing protocols (such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF), multicast, switching protocols, DWDM/CWDM
* Passive optical networking (GPON/XGS-PON etc.)
* Knowledge of passive network construction techniques/topology such as fibre optic installation/build, splicing & testing.
* Excellent stakeholder, crisis and Incident management
* Experience with leading datacomms platforms (Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Nokia GPON etc.)

Other than the above, it would also be great if you had field certs like SA001 Overhead Safety, SA002 - Underground Safety, IPaf, and NRSWA. It would also be beneficial to have Cisco, Juniper or Alcatel/Nokia certification (or another equivalent) though it’s not a deal breaker if you don’t have these! While we provide a company vehicle, you will need a full, clean UK Driving Licence and we also require all engineers to undergo a BPSS background check.

What you’ll be doing…
The role is essentially hands-on with our Network and responsible for maintaining, monitoring & upgrading the network after it has been handed over by our build team. In addition to this, the team also deal with any issues that affect multiple users such as a street or town responding within SLAs to restore service or get a plan together for the restoration.

We are looking for talented engineers who want to work at pace, doing something a little different. If you have been working in Network Operations already, you’ll know the variety involved in a role like this. The role will be very varied, once the cabs are built and live, you could be coordinating the teams to fix things, you could be out in the field, at a customer’s house trying to help understand network issues or doing work at the exchange.

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Onsite and remote technical Maintenance support of the Ogi Active & Passive Network
* Lead service restoration during network incidents in your area
* Provide remote on-call support for Network issues
* Non Primary area holiday and or sickness cover (East, West and Central)
* Project support for expansion or ongoing Network Changes
* Act as technical escalation support for the local Installation Team

You’ll be covering one of our build patches across South Wales build area (either West, Central or East, whichever is local to you) and will eventually be part of a larger Network Engineering team that will grow across South Wales; providing guidance on the Network as well as be the point of escalation for Network-specific issues (dependant on workload there is the option for remote in some BAU/support).

Our Network Engineers will need to be able to work a 24/7/365 shift including out-of-hours, night and holiday work. To give you an idea, you’ll work normal hours in the day (e.g. 8-430) and flex around the work as well as cover out of hours on a rotating shift pattern (inc. Sat / Sun) for support on a Rota – it depends on the work, issues and builds for how this will look though and as we say this will change as we grow!
