Travel Requirements : 50% (Occasionally with short notice)

Caterpillar’s Energy and Transportation Division is currently seeking a Field Service Engineer for IPSD’s European Field Service Engineering team, located in Peterborough UK. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be part of the Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems Division (EAME) Service & Customer Support team, who have responsibility for supporting all CAT & Perkins engine products, 0.5-18 Litre, in region.
This is a key, customer facing product support role, where you will be assisting with the identification, communication, diagnosis and resolution of engine quality and performance related issues negatively impacting sales, customer satisfaction, warranty expenditure or brand reputation on a wide range of product.
The role requires you to develop a trusting customer relationship, both internally and externally, present a professional image and provide service solutions through World Class customer service.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan and conduct field visits on identified machines, assisting dealers and OEMs with complex fault diagnosis and rectification, minimising machine downtime and customer pain. Ensure repairs are carried out to the highest standard, providing a “First Time Fix” to the customer.
Provide dealer training and assessment based on field engineering expertise in conjunction with ongoing product support initiatives.
Follow Proto and Pilot products during the NPI phase, document identified issues through PPRD, and carry out reworks and up-certification work as needed.
Support DSN analysts with rapid resolution of field queries raised through the technical helpdesk.
Attend customer manufacturing facilities to inspect, investigate or rectify identified component quality or performance related issues to assist factory teams with problem identification and containment.
Manage own development, continuously learning through experience.
Conduct all work practices in line with company health and safety policies.
Configure and dispatch telematics devices as needed to monitor and collect data to aid issue investigations and troubleshooting efforts. Perform SC2 data analysis on as needed basis to better troubleshoot field issues.
Support CPI/DSN investigations working with dealers and engineering to help determine root cause of the problem and collect any information needed to support issues investigation.
Skills and Experience:
Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Product related and/or field experience or Bachelors’ degree in Engineering
Knowledge of diesel engines, aftertreatment systems and control strategies
Ability to work under pressure, performing multiple assignments, whilst focusing on meeting the needs of the customer
Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a wider team
Strong data analysis and interpretation capabilities
Proven analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
Prior experience with troubleshooting and diagnostics
Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Advanced Engineering Degree
Prior field service or product support experience
Advanced Failure Analysis and service engineering experience
Telematics device configuration and monitoring (SC2, SC2 Lite, etc)
Working knowledge of Vector CANape, DATK/Forecast/CAT ET, Perkins EST or similar tools
Strong business acumen
Strong mechanical aptitude
Intermediate knowledge of customer solutions (parts products, service offerings, solution offerings)
