Job description
ADAS, part of RSK Group, is looking for Field Research Scientists to join our Soils, Crops and Water team on a full time, permanent basis to be based out of our Rosemaund office in Herefordshire.
This is a practical field-based role working on scientific projects for clients primarily in the areas of Crop Pathology and Physiology. Due to the seasonal nature of the work a flexible approach is needed as there will be a requirement to work overtime (evenings and weekends), and although field based, you will also be required to do some laboratory and office-based working.
You will be working as a member of the team responsible for setting up and undertaking field and plot experiments as part of the ADAS R&D agricultural, horticultural, and agri-environmental programmes, along with a small number of glasshouse and laboratory experiments. Duties will involve a wide range of practical tasks, such as sampling and disease monitoring of plants, applying plant protection products to crops, assisting with the entire cycle of arable crop production (from cultivation and planting through to spraying and harvest), alongside other scientific and agricultural work.
Training will be provided as required, with the potential for career progression within the company.

Key responsibilities:
- Deliver practical research for a range of agricultural crops, working predominantly in the disciplines of pathology and physiology
- Lead implementation of on-site field / glasshouse / polytunnel / laboratory work and liaise with clients and colleagues to ensure on time delivery
- Manage projects ensuring key objectives and deadlines, are met, ensuring high levels of scientific credibility and client satisfaction are achieved
- Handle collection, aggregation, and routine analysis of data
- Take responsibility for the maintenance of allocated equipment
Person Specification
- A full driving licence to drive manual vehicles in the UK is essential
- An ability and willingness to work overtime (evenings and weekends) during busy periods and flexibility to travel within the UK
- Interested in Agriculture and/or Scientific research
- Capability or potential to manage glasshouse, polytunnel, offsite field experiments, alongside laboratory and office delivery
- Good numerical ability and accuracy
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Ideally educated to A-level or higher in a relevant subject area. However, we are open to receiving applications from those of a variety of educational backgrounds, and full training will be provided
- Ability and experience with agricultural machinery would be advantageous but not essential
Salary and Benefits
- £21,500 - £22,500 per annum, depending on experience + paid overtime
