Climate Change is the biggest risk we face. We are planning for future flood scenarios including a 4oC rise in global temperature and are working with government, local councils, businesses, civil society groups and communities to make our environment a better place for people and wildlife.
The DCIS Area is currently reviewing its people resource and where to deploy our Field Teams to ensure the most effective future delivery. We are seeking to recruit a Team Leader to lead a Field Team in West Cornwall who can work flexibly with other Team Leaders across Devon and Cornwall.

You will:
  • Lead a field team that contribute to the asset management life cycle and support the prevention or mitigation of incidents.
  • Promote and reinforce the Environment Agency’s vision and culture. Motivate and empower team members to achieve their potential.
  • Build effective relationships, internally and externally.
  • Contribute to the development of the asset maintenance programme and lead on its delivery, including supervising the management of contractors.
  • Manage the team budget, including identifying risk and efficiency savings and ensuring end of financial year targets are met.
  • Manage and promote Health Safety and Wellbeing of team members, while ensuring the correct training is received and competencies are maintained.
  • Carry out on-site active monitoring to validate and record appropriate risk management compliance and behaviours.
The team
You'll lead a team of Field staff who maintain and operate flood risk management assets as well as having a key incident response role.
You'll also be part of the Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Area Operations leadership team. As a large department covering a substantial area they work effectively together, each person representing on key topic areas.
Experience/skills required
You'll have the skills and knowledge necessary to lead people. You'll be able to provide clear direction, instruction and guidance through effective performance management whilst recognising strengths, vulnerabilities and motivations within a team as well as inspiring development of team members and helping them to embrace organisational change.
You'll have the ability to resource, prioritise and deliver a work programme. Identifying the required competencies and skills needed. Experience of leading a team and an understanding of associated budgets is preferable.

An understanding of Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations 2015; health and safety regulations including Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations is desirable.

It is desirable, but not essential that you hold a relevant degree (or similar qualifications) and specialist training such as National Examination Board of Safety Health (NEBOSH) and/or Institute of Asset Management Certificate (IAM).

Driving licence is essential.
