Position:

BCHA has an opportunity for a confident and ambitious individual to join our BCHA Domestic Abuse Service as a Family Intervention worker, Working across the BCP conurbation. We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of the challenges children and young people experiencing domestic abuse face, recognising the importance of safeguarding children, whilst providing an open but structured environment where families can explore their difficulties, enabling recovery and healthy coping mechanisms.


The Family Intervention Team deliver support led by a team of skilled support workers trained in trauma-informed care. The team will consistently use a trauma-focused, person-centred approach to reach the customer in a way that facilitates a better understanding of Domestic Abuse, empowering customers with lifelong skills, tools and techniques to effectively make healthy relationship choices in the future.

You will be confident to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders enabling access to opportunity, and contributing to a child’s recovery from adverse childhood experiences.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Carry out comprehensive needs and risk assessments and interventions
  • To plan, deliver and review individual and family support plans with targeted goals and outcomes
  • To work in partnership with families and support the creation of an open, caring but structured environment where families feel free to explore their difficulties and encouraging the empowerment of both parent and child to make their own decisions
  • Plan and implement a programme of play and therapeutic work with children and family, both individually and in groups
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies
  • Assist children and families to access local services such as homework clubs, after school clubs, GP’s, youth service, counselling, education and welfare services
  • To work within a culture of continuous improvement and support the monitoring and evaluation of the project
  • Maintain individual records for each customer as well as statistical returns, diary, referrals, contacts, finance records and child support records
  • Increase awareness of domestic abuse by networking within the local and wider community, agencies, schools, to educate/ inform them about the issues and effects of domestic abuse and the needs of children affected by domestic abuse

This is an exciting and challenging role but with the potential to develop and drive some very exciting innovations, when children and young people are now recognised as victims within the Domestic abuse Act 2021.
