The Role
Derby Museums is looking for an energetic and proactive programmer with experience of working with families, children and young people and a strong sense of the role that culture, heritage and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) can play in the development of children and young peoples’ skills, capacities, and wellbeing.
With an emphasis on co-producing and facilitating learning experiences which engage the head, heart and hands, this role is pivotal in developing and delivering family and young peoples’ learning programmes which involve and engage diverse audiences, enriching the content and relevance of our programmes.
The role includes but is not limited to;
  • Devising and implementing engaging, high quality and relevant activities, programmes, and projects with and aimed at young people, families, and early years, both on and off site and digitally, as required.
  • Increasing engagement and the diversity of audiences participating in our family and young peoples' learning programmes and support the development of cultural capital and skills.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of organisations, networks, and community groups to ensure our programmes are relevant to local audiences and support wider regional and national strategies.
This role is based at the Museum of Making, but you will be required to work at any of our museums as well as offsite.
The Person
You will have a passion for and have experience of working with children, families, and young people with a strong belief in your ability to make a positive impact. You will be an experienced collaborator with great ideas and a good understanding of cultural learning and STEAM. You will be an excellent communicator, who is highly organised with the ability to engage and work effectively with a wide range of people and who is able to respond to challenges whilst working efficiently to tight deadlines. You will be enthusiastic about the potential of pushing boundaries, using new approaches and able to utilise opportunities to co-produce, plan and deliver exciting and meaningful learning experiences.
