Audubon Metals LLC is located in Henderson, Kentucky and began its operations in 1996 with an in-house heavy media sortation process and a single reverberatory furnace. Since then the company has continued to expand its Kentucky operations and has added a second facility in Corsicana, Texas.
Automotive shredder residue, from automotive shredders throughout North America, is the main raw product brought in to our facility. We pride ourselves on being the only facility within the United States with a sortation and secondary smelter under one roof. We produce aluminum alloy ingots and sows for the automotive industry.

Job Summary:
The Heavy Media Utility (HMU) is responsible for supporting the sorters and operators in the Heavy Media Department by ensuring the safety of equipment and communicating effectively.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
- Support team members of the Heavy Media Department by utilizing our H-3 Lean principles and our Core Values
- Inspect and perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) on all Heavy Media equipment. Ensure all guards are in place throughout the shift.
- PM Mobile Equipment (i.e. forklifts and skid steers)
- Keep all tubs and bins dumped and cleaned out through the shift; includes coin trammels and W-8 as needed.
- Monitor and/or inspect the sludge pump throughout the shift.
- Keep the work area clean and water trained or swept up.
- Move fesi or magnetite to job crane area for Heavy Media.
- Weight up CV, magnesium, computer chips, airbags, and money at the end of each shift.
- Ensure proper identification of all products throughout the shift.
- Give breaks as needed to Operators and/or Sorters.
- Other job duties as needed.
- Mechanical Aptitude – Having the aptitude to understand and successfully operate machines or tools including computers, forklifts and/or skid steers
- Visual Alertness/Attentiveness – Must be able to distinguish between colors
- Math – Capable of completing basic math skills; including the aptitude to weigh, record, total, and calculate percentages on test reports
- Communication – Must be able to read, write legibly, and talk to others to convey information effectively; may require the use of hands and/or arms or radio communication
- Critical Thinking – Using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Coordination – Adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions
- Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to sweep and do light shoveling.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time in a hot or cold environment.
- Standard shift is 12 hours
- Must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, squat, sit, balance, twist at the waist and neck, and/or crouch to perform work over the duration of the shift.
- Must be able to function in a loud, dusty, hot, cold, or humid environment for the duration of the shift.
