As a National Outdoor Centre, Plas y Brenin develops the people that develop the outdoor sector – from instructors to centre managers to expedition leaders to NGB officers to policymakers. This includes developing inspiring coaches, instructors and leaders in adventure sport, be they volunteers or working professionally in the sector, to better support people, from all backgrounds, to get active in the outdoors.
By hosting conferences, symposiums and meetings, we bring together practitioners from across the UK (and beyond) to share learning, transfer good practice and raise standards. The remit includes providing direction and leadership for the maintenance functions, and expected to deliver against agreed business plan targets and performance indicators. The Facilities Manager will bring a customer-centric approach, and this will be a key feature of the service provision.
Lead, and be responsible for, all aspects of facility management in relation to buildings and premises at Plas y Brenin. To include building and grounds maintenance and vending, on site health and safety, procurement and contract management, security, utilities, sports facilities (including climbing walls and kayak rolling pool) and equipment.
To ensure all related operating policies, procedures, systems and working practices comply with health and safety legislation, contract requirements, industry standards and protocols, and are following industry best practice.
Direct, coordinate and oversee planned and reactive maintenance works so that site disruption is minimised, all colleagues are aware, customer communications are clear, timely and informed, and that the environment remains safe and secure.
To ensure all health and safety legislation is implemented including risk assessments, health and safety policies and procedures, facility records and to ensure staff are fully briefed on all aspects of health and safety legislation and industry guidelines.
To oversee the use of external specialist facilities management providers and all on-site contractors, ensuring conformance to all required standards, practices and protocols and checking that agreed work has been completed satisfactorily, following up on any deficiencies.
To manage the facilities budget, and ensure that this is met, and plans are delivered.
To be an effective member of the Senior Leadership Team, acting as a role model for all employees.
Person Specification:
- Proven experience as a Facilities Manager or in another relevant position, with experience in: property strategy, space management, building maintenance, administration, contract management, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, engineering or facilities management, or a related field.
- Understanding of, and experience in managing a planned ‘preventative’ and ‘reactive’ maintenance programme for a large and diverse site.
- A driven individual who is action orientated; a completer finisher who understands commercial pressure, can work at pace, and is focused on results – outcomes not outputs.
- Able to manage a heavy work programme and is prepared to prioritise and work flexibly to meet deadlines.
- Is able to work well under pressure; remains calm and can reassure staff and lead in emergency situations.
