BeActive Urmston is growing! Following 2 successful years of operation we have an opening upon our team. We are a community-focused leisure centre and are currently expanding our membership, classes and activities.

We are on the look-out for a driven and self-motivated person to take on the role of Assistant Facility Manager. Experience is an advantage but not essential as training will be offered.

We want an individual who can play a key role in the leadership and management team and be energised and passionate about all that they do.

A successful candidate will have excellent communication skills with the ability to demonstrate an empathetic and adaptable approach. Your role will be to develop, manage and monitor our in-house processes and deliver and lead on these to our small staff team.

The role will give you the opportunity to shape the centre’s programme, staff team and the facility itself. You can use your creativity across several areas, really putting your own stamp on our business. The role will allow for personal growth and to support a better quality of life for our community.

You must have high standards and the ability to manage, lead and be an example to the others on your team.

BeActive Urmston is a large dry sports entre based in Urmston, Trafford. It has a large 8 court sports hall, studio, gym squash courts and café area. In April 2021 it was the subject of a community asset transfer to a community group, who now manage the centre. Our objectives are community motivated with a simple strapline of “be fit, be active, be together”. BeActive Urmston is all about building a happier, healthier community through health & wellbeing

SALARY: £28-31,000 pro-rata (based upon 40 hours per week)

HOURS: 40 hours per week; including shift work. Evening and weekend work will be part of the requirement of the post. (Applications for a part time position may be considered)

ROLE PURPOSE

1. Be a part of the leadership and management of BeActive Urmston, including operations, programming, promotion, development and staffing; ensuring that the Centre provides excellent customer service whilst achieving financial and operational targets.

2. To support and implement the business and marketing plans for Urmston working to achieve agreed targets for income generation and usage and a balanced programme of activities.

3. To assist the Company to achieve its targets and objectives, particularly in the areas of Facility Development, Sports Development and Health & Physical Activity.

4. To contribute and work towards a continuous improvement strategy.

5. To develop a welcoming community within the Centres members and users. Work with community partners to provide a comprehensive approach to community engagement.

6. To assist the Facility Manager in the developing productive partnerships within Trafford and Greater Manchester.

7. To facilitate an efficient and effective delivery of services with key focus on providing a quality product / service in a safe and friendly environment.

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible to: Facility Manager

Reports to: Facility Manager

Supervises: Duty Managers, Leisure Assistants, Volunteers & Class Instructors

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General Management:

1. To deliver smooth running and manage the day-to-day operations of BeActive Urmston.

2. To support team meetings with the Centre staff. To support meetings on behalf of the Centre with internal and external agencies.

3. To effectively and proactively implement the Company’s human resource policies and procedures.

4. To support and contribute to the annual business, ensure good practice and achieve set targets of The George Carnall Community Group CIC.

5. To deliver and uphold all relevant Health & Safety legislation and industry good practice.

6. To effectively and proactively implement the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy both in terms of employment and service delivery.

7. To ensure and maintain effective communication throughout all levels of employees and volunteers at BeActive Urmston.

8. To undertake any other duties, as requested by the Facility Manager, that are commensurate with the job title and grade of the post.

Specific Duties:

1. To maintain systems and procedures of work which ensure good and consistent standards of operation, maintenance, and customer care.

2. To input and implement an 'annual business plan' for the development of the Centre.

3. To support the development and implement a zero-based budget that reflects the needs of the Centre for the forthcoming financial year.

4. To support the Facility Manager with the income and expenditure budgets for the Centre, and drive to achieve these targets.

5. To assist in staff resource procedures, regarding discipline, grievance, capability, absence management and recruitment and selection.

6. To contribute, support and implement marketing campaigns and programmes to generate increases in income and participation.

7. To ensure staff and volunteers are compliant with all Health & Safety policies and regulations and to ensure that all activities supporting this compliance are completed and documented in an appropriate manner.

8. To ensure all areas of the Centre are covered by appropriately qualified staff or volunteers during hours of usage.

9. To monitor and maintain all records of the site.

10. To engage in the recruitment, management, retention, and development of volunteers.

Qualifications/ Education

First Aid at Work Certificate (Essential, or willing to undertake at the start of employment)

IOSHH Managing Safely (Essential, or willing to undertake at the start of employment)

A management qualification in the area of physical recreation, Business, Health or leisure management (Desirable)

Membership of a relevant Business, leisure or management institute. (Desirable)

Skills/Training

The ability to lead and motivate staff. (Essential)

A high degree of self-motivation. (Essential)

Effective communication and interpersonal skills. (Essential)

Effective planning and organisational skills. (Essential)

The ability to focus on operational details. (Essential)

Ability to manage and motivate others; including staff and volunteers and apprentices. (Essential)

Experience

Experience in the recruitment and management of staff. (Essential)

Experience of managing leisure facilities. (Essential)

Experience of forecasting and working within a budget. (Essential)

Experience of working/developing relationships with community, sporting, and governmental partners. (Desirable)

Statutory/Legal

Understanding of Health & Safety legislation in relation to the operation of Community leisure facilities. (Essential)

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. (Essential)

Other

A willingness to work evenings and weekends. (Essential)
