The Loss and Damage Collaboration (L&DC) is a global network of 200+ climate policy and cultural and creative practitioners, researchers, activists, lawyers, advocates and decision-makers from both the global North and South working together to ensure that the developing countries, people and communities on the front lines of the climate crisis have the support they need to address climate change-related loss and damage.

SUMMARY

TheLoss and Damage Collaboration(L&DC) is looking for an experienced creative to support our communications work as a graphic designer and social media content producer in the run-up toUNFCCC COP 28and beyond. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to support the pursuit of climate justice and to learn more about the impacts of the climate crisis (loss and damage) whilst helping us to explore innovative ways to communicate the urgency of climate action, developing our brand identity, social media impact and following.

THE ROLE AT A GLANCE

The role: Your role will be to help to drive our communications work as a graphic designer and social media content producer working independently and in collaboration, utilizing skills across graphic design, video editing, writing, and information gathering.

Location: The remote position can be worked anywhere in the world with a reliable internet connection.

Days per week: You will typically work three days a week between Monday and Friday with additional days required during key Loss and Damage moments such as COP28.

Language: The work will be carried out in English (proficiency in other languages is desirable).

Wage: The day rate for the role is £300 per day [approximately $385.85 (USD)] for a total of 172 days. Total earnings before tax will be £51,600. All payments are made in pounds (GBP)

Length of the role: The funding period for the role until September 2024.

Contract: You will be provided with a freelance contract for the duration of the role by our fiscal sponsor Climate 2025. You will be responsible for the payment of taxes and/or health insurance/contributions in your country.

Start date: The role begins on September 25th (or as soon as possible there afterwards).

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Focus of the Role:

Your role will be to support our communications work as a graphic designer and social media content producer, you will work closely with our communications coordinator.

Key Tasks:

  • Leading / supporting the graphic design of L&DC publications in Indesign;
  • Leading the development of L&DC content for Instagram and engaging with our followers (knowledge of Adobe Indesign and/or Canva is desirable);
  • Uploading content to the L&DC website (knowledge of Webflow is desirable);
  • Supporting the development of L&DC Twitter content / posting pre-made content / posting duplicate content to Instagram Threads.
  • Developing simple L&DC video content, sourcing and working with footage from creative commons/stock archives, where possible supporting the development of original video content during Loss and Damage negotiations/events (knowledge of Davinci Resolve, Adobe Premier Pro and videography is desirable);
  • Developing L&DC graphics/infographics for social media kits for key Loss and Damage moments (knowledge of Adobe Indesign and/or Canva is desirable);
  • Supporting the collection of Loss and Damage information, reports, updates and media articles from social media and news outlets and supporting Loss and Damage media analysis.
  • Supporting coordination/outreach with journalists during key Loss and Damage moments;
  • Supporting the coordination of all L&DC communications outputs.

Essential Qualifications / Skills

The following qualification and skills are essential to carry out the work the role requires:

  • Strong knowledge/experience in delivering high-quality graphic design outputs;
  • Experienced in Adobe Indesign;
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop;
  • Portfolio of previous high-quality work;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in English;
  • Good organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work independently and with limited supervision,
  • Proficiency with tools for working online (e.g. Slack, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/Drive, DropBox and G-Mail); and;
  • Reliable access to the internet and the ability to work well with others remotely via Zoom in different time zones across the world.

Desirable Qualifications / Skills

The following list represents skills and qualifications that are desirable but not essential:

  • Some experience in graphic design work for communications and/or advocacy and outreach in relation to Loss and Damage, climate change and/or social justice campaigning, advocacy, research, or content.
  • Knowledge and experience in filming, video editing and motion graphics;
  • Knowledge of podcasting/willingness to host podcasts and Twitterspace conversations;
  • Knowledge of creative commons and stock image/video archives;
  • Any other knowledge and experience related to the visual arts and creative industries;
