Executive Publisher, Organic Chemistry
Elsevier, a world-renowned STM Journals Publisher, is seeking an exceptional Executive Publisher to oversee their organic chemistry journals portfolio. As the Publisher of this portfolio, you will have the unique opportunity to manage a collection of highly respected legacy journals covering organic and medicinal chemistry, while also developing and growing the new, Open Access, innovative Tetrahedron Chem series. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of dedicated in-house Scientific Editors, all while using your excellent communication and networking skills to build relationships with scientists and advance cutting-edge organic chemistry research. In addition to the journals portfolio, you will also manage the annual international Tetrahedron Symposium.
You'll report to the Chemistry Journals Publishing Director in London, working as part of a global team of Chemistry Publishers and Scientific Editors based in China, The Netherlands, India, and the United Kingdom.

Main Responsibilities
- Market awareness: You should be seen to be active in the market and knowledgeable about it, and will need to regularly keep in contact with the research community through careful relationship-building and adopting a mix of communication channels
- Journal development: You will balance maintaining the good performance of a journal portfolio with supporting goals around accelerated growth of content
- Editor appointments: You will carefully manage editor appointments for your journals and ensure your journals have editorial structures that are diverse and dynamic
- Brand visibility: You will improve the visibility of your journal brands and our company tools and services through effective outreach and keeping an eye on the competition
- Teamwork: you will need to work closely with team members and other publishing colleagues to help deliver on collaborative projects and goals.
- People Management: you will lead an internal team of five Scientific Editors, driving them to grow their journals and supporting them in their personal development
Location
- Permanent full-time role attached to one of our key journal offices in London, Oxford or Amsterdam.
- We support hybrid office/home working
Requirements
- 5-8 years prior experience in journal publishing and/or editing
- University level degree or higher, ideally in Chemistry or a related discipline
- A creative and innovative problem-solving attitude
- Strong networking, diplomacy and collaboration skills, and an ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- The ability to travel internationally, including to the United States
