Job Introduction

The BBC is recruiting for an EA to support to the Group Chief Operating Officer (COO), based in London. This is a continuing role. The Group COO is a member of the BBC’s Board and Executive Committee.

The COO is responsible for leading a number of critical BBC functions; overseeing Technology and Product and the development and delivery of the BBC’s digital and broadcast systems, products and services and leading Finance, HR, Legal, Commercial Rights & Business Affairs, Quality, Risk and Assurance and Procurement.

Main Responsibilities

As EA to the Group COO, you will provide high level professional secretarial and administrative support working closely with the Group COO and managing an extremely busy diary. You will act as the first point of contact for enquiries at all levels and you must be a skilled communicator with experience of dealing with people from a range of backgrounds and abilities. You will be a strong advocate for the COO Group. This is a demanding and challenging role, working in a high pressure, fast moving environment, assessing priorities, taking the appropriate action to ensure the smooth running of the office and diary.

You will organise the Group COO’s diary; review and prioritise incoming emails and documents; monitor telephone calls; handle requests and enquires and use initiative and experience to identify issues which need immediate attention, alerting the Group COO where necessary. As well as organising meetings, you will act as a key point of co-ordination for the wider Group team, liaising with Group’s team assistants on a regular basis and taking on their responsibilities at times of absence.

Are you the right candidate?

You will be a highly experienced and skilled operator in a high profile, complex and often challenging environment. Proven experience of providing senior level secretarial and administrative support (e.g. Director or Divisional Board member level) is essential and you will be well versed in managing a constantly changing diary, possessing the ability to remain calm, organised and focused under pressure. You will share ideas around ways of working and ensure that priorities are given the focus they require.

Strong organisation skills and the ability to work flexibly and independently are also essential. As well as being a superb communicator with tact, diplomacy and discretion, you will be a persuasive individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly to ensure the COO Group are represented positively.
