The opportunity


EY's Economic Advisory team of over 40 economists, accountants, policy & regulatory practitioners is now looking to expand significantly on its existing economics practice to capture exciting opportunities, particularly within our target sectors of energy & resources, telecommunications, media & technology, transport & infrastructure sectors and economic policy. As a result, we are looking for skilled post-graduates or equivalent professionals with experience to grow our team to the next level.


In Economic Advisory we use the principles of economics to help clients make better decisions around policy, regulation and commercial activities. Our work is based on rigorous quantitative analysis combined with a deep understanding of different industries. In our team you will develop economic expertise while working for major companies, governments and policy makers, work on complex and sometimes high-profile projects and collaborate with colleagues and clients across the globe.


Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:


  • Designing and influencing sector-specific economic regulation or policy in our target sectors
  • Delivering high calibre economic insight and producing high quality, technically sound reports
  • Management of projects to time and budget
  • Liaising with clients and leading client meetings
  • Proactively supporting business development initiatives
  • Playing an active part in the management of the wider team
  • Building a network of contacts both internally and externally


Skills and attributes for success


  • Have an ability to solve complex problems in a logical and structured manner;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, being able to explain complex technical issues to non-technical staff and clients;
  • Have a strong ability to build rapport and relationships with clients and EY teams;
  • Deal confidently with stakeholders and client staff and build credibility for the firm;
  • Are organised and able to prioritise competing demands, responding quickly to client requests, with excellent judgement in understanding when to refer an issue to more senior staff where appropriate;
  • Recognise opportunities to contribute to client issues when they arise and assists in providing solutions;
  • Actively promotes the sharing of knowledge;
  • Contribute pro-actively to building team spirit and works effectively across teams;
  • Deliver to demanding deadlines maintaining a high quality of output.


To qualify for the role you must have


  • Experience in Economic policy and/or experience in one of our target sectors;
  • Experience of competition or regulatory economics, strategy, business planning, costing and pricing;
  • Strong academic and professional background in Economics, Business or Industrial Economics or Econometrics.


Ideally, you’ll also have


  • Be an excellent communicator, both oral and written
  • Have project management skills
  • Be an effective time manager, able to keep calm when under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Be a team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels

Suitable applicants will be highly numerate and analytical with a relevant undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree, such as Economics, Finance, Engineering and Mathematics with an experience in the private, regulatory or the public policy sector.
