Job description

Rob Butler, MP for Aylesbury, is looking for an experienced Executive Assistant for his Westminster office. You will work very closely with Rob and his Chief of Staff to ensure he can represent his constituents to the highest standards in Parliament. This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to a very busy office at a significant time in British politics.

You will be responsible for managing the inbox and fast-moving diary in Parliament (including speaking commitments in the Chamber, as chair or vice-chair of several All-Party Parliamentary Groups and on the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme)and the constituency, as well as organising travel, contributing to projects, ensuring efficient office administration and potentially handling some casework.

Essential:

  • Significant experience working with senior executives in high-pressure settings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Extremely well organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong IT skills, in particular Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Ability to work both independently and as a key member of a small team

Desirable:

  • Experience working with a wide variety of external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and understanding of Parliament
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a fast-moving diary
  • Manage an extremely busy inbox
  • Produce briefings for meetings and speeches
  • Manage expenses and office administration
  • Resource, task and project management
  • Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
  • Assist with constituency casework when required

There may sometimes be a requirement for the role holder to work outside normal working hours and occasionally to travel for work.

Salary: In accordance with IPSA scales, likely £35-40,000 p.a.

Location: Houses of Parliament, London SW1A Mon - Wednesday/Thursday when Parliament is sitting; Home on Fridays and during Parliamentary recess
